コーギーが英国王に、対仏戦争に夢中！？　アニメ映画が学生版オスカー受賞

【ロサンゼルスＡＦＰ＝時事】映画には世界を一つにする力があるといわれるが、米映画芸術科学アカデミー（ＡＭＰＡＳ）が今月２１日に主催した「学生アカデミー賞」授賞式でアニメーション部門の銀賞に輝いたのは、英国王位を継いだコーギーがフランスに核戦争を仕掛ける筋立ての作品だった。（写真はピート・ドクター監督）
　コーギーは、英国のエリザベス女王お気に入りの犬種として知られる。アレクサンダー・トゥロー氏制作のアニメ『Ｂａｒｋｉｎｇ　Ｏｒｄｅｒｓ（原題）』は、コーギーが世界征服をたくらむ様子を面白おかしく描いている。
　新型コロナウイルスのパンデミック（世界的な大流行）を受けて２年連続でオンライン開催された授賞式では、『モンスターズ・インク』や『カールじいさんの空飛ぶ家』を手掛けたピート・ドクター監督がトゥロー氏の銀賞受賞を発表した。
　トゥロー氏は受賞スピーチで、「フランスに核攻撃を仕掛けるというアイデアは、制作プレゼンテーション段階では特に人気があったわけではなかった。幾つか問題点があった」と冗談めかして明かした。
　学生アカデミー賞は、アカデミー賞を主催する米ハリウッドの映画業界団体、映画芸術科学アカデミーによる重要プログラム。過去の受賞者には、ドクター監督の他、スパイク・リー監督、「バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー」シリーズのロバート・ゼメキス監督、『００７／ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ』のキャリー・フクナガ監督らがいる。
　今年の各部門の金賞は、アパルトヘイト（人種隔離政策）時代の南アフリカを描いた『Ｗｈｅｎ　Ｔｈｅ　Ｓｕｎ　Ｓｅｔｓ（原題）』、韓国人慰安婦がテーマの『Ｕｎｆｏｒｇｏｔｔｅｎ（原題）』、米カリフォルニアの養蜂家が直面する環境問題を扱った『Ｗｈｅｎ　Ｔｈｅｙ＇ｒｅ　Ｇｏｎｅ（原題）』など、硬派な作品に贈られた。【翻訳編集ＡＦＰＢＢＮｅｗｓ】

Cinema is meant to unite the world -- but an animation about a Corgi who inherits the British throne and wages nuclear war with France was among the winners of the Student Academy Awards on Thursday.

Gold awards went to films on hard-hitting topics such as apartheid South Africa (When The Sun Sets), Korean wartime comfort women (Unforgotten) and the environmental challenges facing Californian beekeepers (When They're Gone).
Past student winners have included Docter, Spike Lee, Back To The Future filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga.
The Oscars are due to take place March 27, a month later than previously scheduled, due to the pandemic.
