　コース序盤のニュイサンジョルジュの丘にはベルナールの友人や家族が集まり、地元出身のベルナールの名前を叫んでいた。その近くを通り過ぎる際、ベルナールは息子を腕に抱いた妻を抱き寄せてキスした。
　国際自転車競技連合（ＵＣＩ）のレース役員はこれを少しやり過ぎだと考え、通常は公の場で用を足したり、基準を外れた危険行為に及んだりした場合に関する全般ルールを、今回はお祭り的な性質の行為に適用。「スポーツのイメージを崩す振る舞い」に対して２００スイスフラン（約３万６０００円）の罰金を科した。
　それでもベルナールは地元紙に対して「昨年１０月にコースが発表されてから、この瞬間を待ち望んでいた」と話し、「こういう瞬間は人生に一度きりで、罰金を科されたとしても気にしない」と続けた。
