年末年始「例がない閑散さ」　観光地から相次ぐ悲鳴―ＧｏＴｏ全国で一斉停止

　新型コロナウイルスの感染急拡大で、政府の観光支援事業「Ｇｏ　Ｔｏ　トラベル」が２８日、全国で一時停止された。稼ぎ時の年末年始だが、観光業界からは「こんな閑散さは例がない」と悲鳴が上がる。国内でウイルス変異種が確認されるなど、来月１１日の事業再開も流動的。相次ぐキャンセルに「年間売り上げの５割が蒸発した」との嘆きも聞かれた。
　観光産業への依存度が高い沖縄県。那覇市の国際通りに人通りは少なく、年末のにぎわいからは程遠い。県内のホテル運営大手「かりゆしグループ」（那覇市）の平良朝敬会長は「（沖縄の観光業界は）県独自を含む５月と８月の緊急事態宣言、そして今回と、トリプルパンチ。年間売り上げの５割が蒸発した」と惨状を訴える。
　官民一体の一般財団法人「沖縄観光コンベンションビューロー」（那覇市）の下地芳郎会長は、同県の観光業は２００１年の米同時多発テロの大きな影響も乗り切ったと強調。「観光インフラはしっかりしていると国内外に発信し、新しい年の回復につなげたい」と前を見据えた。
　国内有数の観光地、京都の打撃も大きい。清水寺近くのホテル（京都市）では、一時停止が決まった１４日以降のキャンセルで予約が半減。広報担当者は「外国からの需要は皆無」と話し、政府による外国人の新規入国拒否の措置をめぐるインバウンド需要の長期低迷を懸念した。
　小説「坊っちゃん」の舞台、松山市の道後温泉の老舗ホテルの支配人によると、一時停止中のキャンセル率は６０％以上という。支配人は「正月にこんなにがらがらなのは例がない。もっと早く決断してほしかった」と悔しさをにじませた。
　温泉街にはＧｏ　Ｔｏの対象期間に合わせ、当初の旅程を短くしたという観光客の姿もあり、滋賀県東近江市から来た主婦姉川ひとみさん（６４）は「政府の考え方も分かるが、気をつけて行動すれば大丈夫では」と無念そう。兵庫県姫路市の会社員松本正和さん（３８）も「個人的には（事業を）続けてほしかった」と顔をしかめた。（2020/12/29-07:10）

Tourist spots in Japan were rocked by the nationwide suspension of the government's Go To Travel discount program from Monday amid the novel coronavirus resurgence.
   The year-end and New Year's holiday period, which is normally the busiest season for the tourism industry, is now unprecedentedly quiet. The suspension will continue until Jan. 11 next year, but it is uncertain whether the program will be resumed after that.
   The Kokusai-dori shopping street in Naha, the capital of tourism-reliant Okinawa Prefecture, southernmost Japan, was far from being crowded. It is usually packed with tourists during the holiday period.
   Chokei Taira, chairman of Kariyushi, a major hotel operator in Okinawa, said the tourism industry in the prefecture was battered by a coronavirus state of emergency issued by the Japanese government in spring, a similar emergency declaration by the Okinawa prefectural government in summer and the ongoing suspension of Go To Travel. "Half of the industry's annual sales evaporated," he said.
   Meanwhile, Yoshiro Shimoji, chairman of the Okinawa Convention and Visitors Bureau, a public-private foundation, sounded positive, noting that the industry survived the fallouts in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the United States in 2001. "We hope to see a recovery next year by delivering a message both at home and abroad that Okinawa has solid tourism infrastructure," he said.
