国枝さんが引退会見　「やり残したことない」―車いすテニス

　車いすテニスの第一人者として長く活躍し、１月に世界ランキング１位のまま現役引退した国枝慎吾さん（３８）が７日、東京都内で記者会見し、「成績、タイトルでやり残したことがないと思えたのは最高の幸せ」と心境を語った。
　引退を決意したのは昨年の全米オープン後。「ふとした瞬間、『やり切ったな』と口に出るようになった。そういうタイミングだと思った」。政府が国民栄誉賞授与を検討していることには、「やってきたことが評価されて光栄」と述べた。
　脊髄腫瘍のため９歳で車いす生活になり、１１歳で競技を始めた。１７歳からツアー参戦。昨年７月にウィンブルドン選手権で初優勝し、四大大会とパラリンピックを全て制する「生涯ゴールデンスラム」を達成。四大大会優勝はシングルス２８度、ダブルス２２度。パラリンピックは単複合わせて金メダル４個を獲得した。（2023/02/07-17:30）

Retired Wheelchair Tennis Giant Kunieda Voices Satisfaction

Japanese wheelchair tennis giant Shingo Kunieda, who retired from competition in January while at the top of the world rankings, voiced satisfaction with his career on Tuesday.
   "My greatest happiness is that I can feel I have nothing left to do in terms of my tennis achievements and titles," Kunieda, 38, told a press conference in Tokyo.
   Kunieda said that he had decided to retire after last year's U.S. Open.
   "I started sometimes saying I've done everything I can, and I thought that was the timing (of retirement)," he said.
   On the Japanese government considering giving him the People's Honor Award, Kunieda said, "I feel honored because what I've done is being recognized."
