マレー、ポイントなしのウィンブルドンは「エキシビションではない」

【ロンドンＡＦＰ＝時事】男子テニス、元世界ランキング１位のアンディ・マレー（英国）が２５日、ロシアとベラルーシ選手の出場禁止に対する措置で世界ランキングポイントの付与が認められなくなったものの、ウィンブルドン選手権を「エキシビションのように感じることは絶対にない」と主張した。（写真は男子テニスのアンディ・マレー）
　男子プロテニス協会（ＡＴＰ）と女子テニス協会（ＷＴＡ）は、出場禁止の対抗措置として、テニスで最も権威のある大会でランキングポイントを付与しないことを決定。これを受け、今年３度目の四大大会（グランドスラム）を回避する動きを見せる選手も出てきている。
　「思い切って予想してみるが、数週間後のウィンブルドンのセンターコートで観戦している人たちの大部分が、３回戦に勝った選手が何ポイントもらえるかなんて知らないし、気にもしないだろう」
　「だが彼らが勝った選手を覚えていることは保証する。ウィンブルドンは決してエキシビションではないし、エキシビションのように感じることはない」
　女子元世界１位の大坂なおみは、ポイントが付与されないことを理由にウィンブルドンでは「プレーしない方向に傾いている」としたが、前回王者のノバク・ジョコビッチ（セルビア）は、２０００ポイントがなくなっても出場する意向を示している。
　しかしジョコビッチは、現状は「お互いにメリットがない状況」と考えており、全仏オープンに出場中の複数の選手が、皮肉を込めてウィンブルドンを「今年大注目のエキシビション大会」と名付けた。
　グラス（芝）コートシーズンに備えるため全仏出場回避を選択したマレーは、「ゴルフはまめにチェックしているが、マスターズ・トーナメントの勝者が何ポイント獲得するかなんて知らない」とし、ポイントは重要ではないという考えを示した。

Two-time former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray said Wednesday the tournament will never feel like an exhibition despite it being stripped of ranking points over the ban on Russian and Belarusian players.
The decision by the ATP and WTA to remove the sport's most prestigious tournament of ranking points has prompted some players to say they may skip Wimbledon, the year's third Grand Slam.
