安倍首相、ホルムズ海峡の安全確保を＝ロウハニ師、独自構想提唱へ－日イラン首脳

　【ニューヨーク時事】安倍晋三首相は２４日午前（日本時間２５日未明）、イランのロウハニ大統領と米ニューヨークで約１時間会談、米国との緊張緩和に向けて協議した。首相はホルムズ海峡を航行する船舶の安全確保に向け、沿岸国として責任を果たすよう要請。これに対し、ロウハニ師は中東諸国による独自の構想を２５日に国連総会の一般討論演説で提唱する考えを明らかにした。
　ロウハニ師は詳細は明かさなかったが、構想の名称は「ＨＯＲＭＵＺ　ＰＥＡＣＥ　ＥＮＤＥＡＶＯＲ（ホルムズの平和への努力）」の頭文字を取った「ＨＯＰＥ」と説明した。米国が商船護衛などを名目に日本や欧州に呼び掛ける有志連合構想に対抗する狙いがあるとみられる。（2019/09/25-06:04）

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday that Japan wants Iran to fulfill its responsibility as a Persian Gulf littoral state for ensuring the safety of navigation for ships going through the Strait of Hormuz.
   Holding talks in New York for about an hour, Abe and Rouhani discussed ways to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.
   After Abe requested Iran's action regarding the navigation safety, Rouhani said that he will propose an initiative among Middle Eastern countries in his speech at the U.N. General Assembly session on Wednesday.
   The envisaged initiative would be dubbed HOPE, which stands for Hormuz Peace Endeavor, Rouhani said. But he stopped short of unveiling details.
   With the initiative, Iran apparently aims to counter a plan proposed by the United States to form an international coalition to protect commercial ships in and around the Strait of Hormuz, pundits said.
