屋外飲食、こたつで快適に　ＮＹレストランが妙案―新型コロナ

　【ニューヨーク時事】新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大に伴う営業規制により、今年大打撃を受けた米ニューヨークの外食業界。店内飲食は禁止で、店舗前の席での食事はできるが、１２月は氷点下の日も珍しくない。こうした中、日本の冬の定番「こたつ」の快適な暖かさで客を引きつける取り組みが話題を呼んでいる。
　こたつを屋根付きの店外エリアに設置したのは、北海道の郷土料理を提供するレストラン「ドクター・クラーク」の経営者、金山雄大氏（３０）。出身地北海道のかまくらの中で、こたつに入ってジンギスカン料理をＴシャツ姿で食べる人の映像にヒントを得た。
　最大６人入れる掘りごたつを今秋、八つ取り付けたところ、当時は店内飲食が認められていたものの、こたつ目当てに店外飲食を望む客が急増。「足元の衛生面を気にする人もたまにいるが、おおむね好評。初めてこたつに入った人は足を入れた瞬間、驚きの表情を示す」（金山氏）という。
　ニューヨークでは「再び外食が禁止になるのでは」と、不安の声が広がるが、金山氏にはどこ吹く風。キッチンカーでの営業や料理人出張サービスの準備を進めているほか、今回のこたつ席設置が縁でこたつ用ヒーターの現地代理店になる話も来ているといい、あの手この手で危機をチャンスに変えたいと意気込む。（2020/12/29-20:34）

A Japanese restaurant in New York is drawing attention in this coronavirus-plagued winter with its outdoor dining service at "kotatsu" tables that enable diners to keep warm.
   Offering kotatsu, a traditional Japanese low table with a thick blanket laid over it and a built-in electric heater underneath it, is Dr Clark, which serves the cuisine of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture.
   The restaurant's owner, Yudai Kanayama, 30, conceived the idea of the kotatsu service when he watched a video of a person in a T-shirt enjoying a Japanese mutton and vegetable dish while sitting at a kotatsu table placed inside a snow hut in Hokkaido. Kanayama is from Hokkaido.
   After he set up eight sunken kotatsu tables, each of which can seat up to six people, outside his restaurant in autumn, customers who choose to dine outdoors to enjoy the kotatsu service surged even though indoor dining was still allowed at the time.
   "While there are some people who worry about the sanitary conditions of where they place their feet, the kotatsu service has generally enjoyed a good reputation," Kanayama said. "People who use kotatsu for the first time give a look of surprise the moment they put their feet underneath the blanket."
