頑張れ日本！田んぼからエール＝選手表情生き生きと－ラグビーＷ杯

　ラグビーワールドカップ（Ｗ杯）で快進撃を続ける日本代表を応援する田んぼアートが人気だ。稲穂の中に浮かび上がる選手やラグビーボールの巨大なイラスト。担当者は「選手らに思いが届いてほしい」とエールを送る。
　埼玉県行田市の田んぼでは「がんばれ日本代表」の文字と共にリーチマイケル主将ら３選手の顔が描かれている。

　横約１６０ｍ、縦１７５ｍの広さに６月、幼稚園児ら約１０００人が県のブランド米「彩のかがやき」など４品種を植えた。全体を見渡せる高さ５０ｍの展望台には、既に８万人以上が観覧に訪れる人気ぶり。群馬県太田市から夫と訪れた女性（５９）は「すごいなと感心した。ここまできたら優勝、頑張ってほしい」と話した。
　Ｗ杯会場の一つ、大阪府東大阪市の花園ラグビー場の近くの田んぼでは、緑、紫、黒の３種類のもち米を使ったラグビーボールのイラストなどが浮かぶ。
　Ｗ杯に向けて昨年、２種類のもち米で練習。今年６月に地元の高校生や大学生らが本格的に田植えをした。約１０００平方メートルの田んぼを小さな升目に区切り、約６０人が参加したという。地元農協の担当者は「試合中継の空撮で映ればいいと考えた」と話し、大会の盛り上がりに期待を寄せた。（2019/10/11-13:32）

Viewers of rice paddies in harvest season are being wowed by huge living artworks in the fields to welcome the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan and send support to the Japanese national team.
   In Gyoda, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, visitors can enjoy a picture of captain Michael Leitch between two other players, created from rice plants of different colors, on a tract of fields roughly 160 meters wide and 175 meters long.
   The four different varieties were planted in June by some 1,000 people including kindergarten kids.
   More than 80,000 people have visited a 50-meter-high observation deck nearby for a full view of the picture, which includes Japanese letters saying, "Ganbare," to send encouragement to the team.
   "It's awesome. I'm impressed," said a woman, 59, who came to see the picture with her husband from Ota of the neighboring prefecture of Gunma.
