米兵、初公判で「私は無実」　少女への性的暴行など―那覇地裁

　１６歳未満の少女を誘拐し、同意なく性的行為をしたとして、わいせつ目的誘拐と不同意性交の罪に問われた米軍嘉手納基地（沖縄県）所属のブレノン・ワシントン被告（２５）の初公判が１２日、那覇地裁（佐藤哲郎裁判長）であった。罪状認否で被告は「私は無実です。誘拐も性的暴行もしていない」と述べ、無罪を主張した。
　弁護側は「少女に確認したら１８歳と言った。わいせつ目的で車に乗せたわけではなく、すべて同意の下だった」と述べた。
　検察側は冒頭陳述で、被告が事件当日、公園のベンチに座っていた少女に声を掛け、翻訳アプリなどで「何歳ですか」と尋ねると、少女がジェスチャーを交えながら日本語と英語で答えたと指摘。その後、「寒いから」と車に乗せ、「今週末、家で料理したり映画を見たりしないか」と言って自宅に誘い、暴行したと述べた。
　また、帰宅した少女が泣きながら母親に被害を伝えたと明らかにした。
　起訴状によると、被告は昨年１２月２４日、沖縄本島中部の公園で、少女が１６歳未満だと知りながら、わいせつ目的で車に誘って自宅に連れ込み、下半身を触るなどの性的暴行を加えたとされる。
　今年３月に県警が書類送検し、那覇地検が起訴したが、「被害者のプライバシー保護」を理由に公表していなかった。
　事件が公になった６月下旬以降、県内では米軍人による女性への性的暴行が相次いで判明し、反発が広がった。政府は５日、県内で米軍人による性犯罪が発生した場合、関係自治体へ速やかに情報を伝える運用に改めた。（2024/07/12-18:56）

A U.S. serviceman stationed in Okinawa Prefecture on Friday pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping a girl under the age of 16 in the southernmost Japan prefecture and nonconsensual sexual acts.
   At the first hearing at Naha District Court, Brennon Washington, 25, who belongs to the U.S. military's Kadena Air Base, said he is innocent and that he did not kidnap or sexually assault the girl.
   According to the indictment, the defendant is accused of taking the girl in a car from a park to his home and sexually abusing her, including touching her lower body, on Dec. 24, 2023, although he knew she was under 16.
   He was indicted after Okinawa police referred him to the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office in March this year. The police did not make public information about the case immediately, citing the need for consideration of the victim's privacy.
   Since late June, when the case came to light, a series of sexual abuse cases involving U.S. servicemen has surfaced in Okinawa, which hosts the bulk of U.S. military bases in Japan, drawing a backlash from Okinawa residents.
