米著名作家、新作の出版中止　ロシア舞台で抗議殺到

【ロサンゼルスＡＦＰ＝時事】ベストセラーとなった自伝的エッセー「食べて、祈って、恋をして 女が直面するあらゆること探究の書」で知られる米作家、エリザベス・ギルバート氏は１２日、ロシアを舞台にした新作について、抗議が殺到したのを受け、出版を中止すると発表した。（写真は米作家のエリザベス・ギルバート氏〈中央・資料写真〉）
　問題の新作は「スノーフォレスト」。１９３０年代のソ連を舞台に、独裁政権にあらがう一家の物語で、来年初めに出版の予定だった。現在の情勢とはかけ離れているが、書評サイト「グッドリーズ」には、テーマ選定を問題視するコメントが殺到した。
　星一つの評価を付けたユーザーは「ウクライナ人がロシアのテロリストに命を奪われているのに、著名作家がロシア人に関する本を書き、ろくでなしを美化している」と投稿。「ウクライナでジェノサイド（集団殺害）やエコサイド（大規模環境破壊）を行っているロシアについて書き、美化するのか？ 恥を知れ！ 失望した！」とのコメントもあった。
　ギルバート氏はインスタグラムに投稿した動画で、「ウクライナ人読者から、現在の状況下で（どんな本であれ、テーマが何であれ）ロシアを舞台にした本を世に出す選択をしたことについて、怒りや悲しみ、失望、苦痛の声を大量に受け取った」と説明。「耐え難い極度の苦痛を味わい、今も逃れられずにいる人々をこれ以上苦しめたくない」として、出版は断念すると語った。
　ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻の影響への対応に苦慮しているのは、出版界だけにとどまらない。
　音楽界では、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン歌劇場が、ロシアのウラジーミル・プーチン大統領を支持していたとして、ロシア出身の著名ソプラノ歌手アンナ・ネトレプコさんの出演を取りやめた。
