Japan's Motegi to Meet Pompeo in N.Y. Next Week

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday agreed to have a meeting in New York next week on the sidelines of the upcoming U.N. General Assembly session.
In a 20-minute telephone conversation, Motegi and Pompeo exchanged views on the Middle East situation, including Saturday's attacks on major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia. Pompeo provided information to Motegi.
Speaking to reporters after the talks, Motegi denounced the attacks as acts of terrorism.
A loss of stability in the Middle East is a serious problem also to Japan, Motegi said. He did not say whether or not Iran was involved in the attacks.
It was Motegi's first phone conversation with Pompeo since Motegi took office as foreign minister Wednesday.
