ＲＳウイルス感染急拡大　乳幼児に肺炎、５月の２．６倍―感染研

　乳幼児に肺炎を引き起こす恐れがあるＲＳウイルス感染症患者の報告数が急増している。国立感染症研究所によると、例年は秋や冬に流行するが、今年は現在の調査手法を採用した２０１８年以降では最多ペースで推移する。新型コロナウイルスへの感染対策が進み多くの感染症が減少する中、なぜ増加しているかは不明という。
　感染研によると、全国約３０００の小児科医療機関からの報告数は、今月７～１３日の１週間では１機関当たり２．６２人。５週連続の増加で、５月中旬の約２．６倍。鳥取を除く４６都道府県から報告があり、特に福井（１３．１７人）、山口（９．４１人）、富山（７．６６人）などで多い。
　ＲＳウイルスは、せきやくしゃみなどからうつり、２歳までにほぼ全員が感染するが、ほとんどは軽症で済む。発熱や鼻水などの症状があり、乳幼児の肺炎の約５０％はＲＳウイルスが原因という。生後６カ月以下の赤ちゃんや心疾患がある場合は重症化リスクが高い。
　例年は秋から冬に流行するが、今年は既に１８年のピーク（１機関当たり２．４６人）を超えている。新型コロナの感染拡大が始まった２０年は、１年を通じて感染者が少なかった。今年の増加と新型コロナとの関連は不明だが、感染研は「マスクの使用や手洗いの徹底などに努めてほしい」と呼び掛けている。（2021/06/28-08:58）

The number of patients suffering from respiratory syncytial virus infections, which may force infants to develop pneumonia, has been rising rapidly in Japan.
   Although RSV infections usually spread in autumn or winter, the number of infection cases this year has already been moving at highest levels since the current research method was introduced in 2018, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
   While efforts to prevent the contraction of COVID-19 have led to reduced reports of many other infectious diseases, it is unknown why RSV infections are increasing.
   In the week through June 13, the institute received reports from some 3,000 pediatrics departments at hospitals across the country that 2.62 patients per institution developed RSV symptoms. The per-institution average climbed for the fifth straight week, was about 2.6 times the level logged in mid-May and exceeded the 2018 peak of 2.46 patients.
   RSV spreads through coughs or sneezes. The symptoms include fever and runny nose and about 50 pct of infants' pneumonia cases are said to be caused by RSV. If babies of six months old or younger are infected with the virus, their conditions may become severe.
