(2019/09/06-18:11)

Kyoto Pref. to Give Tax Breaks for KyoAni Donations

The Kyoto prefectural government said Friday that it will lower the tax burden on individuals and corporations who donate to victims in July's arson attack on Kyoto Animation Co., or KyoAni.
   The west Japan prefecture and the Japanese Red Cross Society will open a bank account for receiving such donations from Monday to Oct. 30. Individual donations will be subject to income and residential tax breaks and cooperate donations will be treated as deductible expenses.
   It is rare for donations to crime victims to be eligible for tax benefits.
   A total of over 2.5 billion yen has already been donated to a bank account opened by the animation company, whose studio in Fushimi Ward of the city of Kyoto was attacked by an arsonist on July 18. In the attack, 35 people were killed and 32 others were injured. The suspect, Shinji Aoba, was also severely burned.
   All the money in the company's dedicated bank account will be transferred to the new account. Individuals and corporations who made the donations can apply to receive preferential tax treatments.
