大坂なおみ選手が日本国籍選択＝日本代表で東京五輪出場へ－女子テニス

　女子テニスのシングルス世界ランキング３位で、日米両国籍を持つ大坂なおみ選手（２１）＝日清食品＝が、日本国籍を選択する手続きを行ったことが１０日、関係者への取材で分かった。日本の法律では、２２歳の誕生日となる１６日までに国籍を選択する必要があった。
　東京五輪に向けては以前から日本代表として出場する希望を持っており、日本テニス協会と意思確認がなされていた。来夏はテニスの日本勢女子として初の五輪メダル獲得を目指すことになる。
　大阪市出身の大坂は父がハイチ出身で、３歳のときに渡米。時速２００キロにも達する高速サーブと力強いストロークを武器に１０代から頭角を現した。昨年の全米オープンで男女を通じ日本勢初の四大大会シングルス制覇。今年１月の全豪オープンも制して四大大会２連勝を遂げた後、アジア勢初の世界ランキング１位に就いた。

　大坂　なおみ（おおさか・なおみ）３歳でテニスを始める。１３年にプロ転向。１６年に日本選手初の女子テニス協会（ＷＴＡ）最優秀新人賞を受賞。１８年３月のＢＮＰパリバ・オープンでツアー初優勝。同年の全米オープンでシングルスの日本勢で初めて四大大会制覇を遂げ、１９年の全豪オープンでも初優勝。直後の世界ランキングでアジア選手初の１位となった。ツアー通算５勝。最新の世界ランクは３位。父はハイチ出身で、母が日本人。１８０センチ、６９キロ。２１歳。大阪市出身。（2019/10/10-21:31）

Tennis star Naomi Osaka, 21, has taken procedures to keep her Japanese citizenship while renouncing her U.S. citizenship in accordance with Japanese law, sources said Thursday.
   Under the law, Osaka, the world's No. 3 female tennis player, had been required to renounce one of her nationalities by her 22nd birthday on Wednesday next week.
   Osaka has expressed her wish to play for Japan in the Tokyo Olympic Games next year, and she will now aim to become the first Japanese female tennis player to win an Olympic medal in the 2020 Games.
   Osaka was born on Oct. 16, 1997, in the city of Osaka, western Japan, to a Haitian-American father and a Japanese mother. She moved to the United States at the age of 3, when she started to play tennis. She turned professional in 2013.
   Her serves that reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour and powerful strokes made Osaka a standout player from her teenage years. She became the first Japanese to win a Grand Slam singles title, at the 2018 U.S. Open, and became the first Asian tennis player ranked No. 1 in the world after winning the following Grand Slam event, the 2019 Australian Open in January.
