KDDI Picks Nokia, Ericsson as 5G Equipment Providers
Japanese carrier KDDI Corp. selected Nokia of Finland and Sweden's Ericsson to be equipment providers for its new fifth-generation, or 5G, high-speed network, the two northern European companies respectively announced Monday.
Amid the intensifying U.S.-China competition for dominance in technology industries, KDDI chose to exclude equipment made by Huawei Technologies Co. of China from its 5G network, whose commercial operations will start in Japan in March next year at the earliest.
