食料自給率３７％、過去最低更新 コメ消費減少続く―２０年度
農林水産省は２５日、２０２０年度の食料自給率（カロリーベース）が前年度比１ポイント低下の３７％になったと発表した。小数点以下まで見ると３７．１７％で、コメが不作だった１９９３年度や天候不順だった１８年度を下回り、６５年の統計開始以降で最低を更新。長期的なコメ需要の減少に歯止めがかからず、前年度作柄の良かった小麦の生産量が反動で落ちたことも響いた。
自給率を下支えしてきたコメの需要量は、人口減少や食の多様化の進行で減少傾向にある。政府は３０年度の食料自給率を４５％とする目標を掲げるが、１０年以上にわたり３０％台後半で推移しており、達成できるか不透明な情勢だ。（2021/08/25-19:47）

Japan's food self-sufficiency rate matched its record low of 37 pct in fiscal 2020, which ended in March this year, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry said Wednesday.
The rate fell 1 percentage point from the preceding year, tying with the record low set in fiscal 1993, when Japan was hit by a historically poor rice harvest, and fiscal 2018, when the country suffered bad weather.
The calorie-based food self-sufficiency rate declined due to a continued drop in rice consumption and in reaction to the strong wheat harvest the year before.
