沖縄と意見交換の場、米軍創設へ　林官房長官「政府も全面協力」

　沖縄県内で相次いだ米兵の性暴力事件を巡り、在日米軍は２２日、日本政府と連携して在日米軍幹部、沖縄県、地域住民による意見交換の場（フォーラム）を創設すると発表した。これに関し、林芳正官房長官は２３日の記者会見で「再発防止に対する米側の真剣な姿勢の表れだ」と評価。「建設的な議論が行われるよう、日本政府も全面的に協力していく」と強調した。
　在日米軍は、基地出入り時の飲酒検問や、米軍のパトロールを強化する方針も明らかにした。発表を受け、沖縄県の玉城デニー知事は「実効性のある再発防止策となるよう求める」とのコメントを出した。（2024/07/23-14:37）

U.S. Military to Set Up Forum over Sex Crimes in Okinawa

U.S. Forces Japan plans to set up a forum where senior officials can exchange opinions with the Okinawa prefectural government and local people over sex crimes committed by U.S. service personnel.
   The move, announced Monday, shows a U.S. determination to prevent any such incidents from happening again, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday.
   "The Japanese government will cooperate fully for constructive discussions," he added.
   U.S. Forces Japan also disclosed a plan to expand sobriety tests at bases and increase patrols.
   Following the announcement, Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki requested that the U.S. military implement effective preventive measures.
