「米兵暴行許さない」　県庁前で抗議集会―沖縄

　米軍人による女性への性的暴行事件が相次いで明らかになったことを受け、那覇市の沖縄県庁前で４日夕、抗議集会が開かれた。参加した市民らは「米兵の女性暴行を許さない」「県民は怒っている」と気勢を上げた。
　集会は、市民団体「沖縄を再び戦場にさせない県民の会」が主催。同会によると、約６００人が参加し、「沖縄の尊厳を守れ」「基地を閉鎖せよ」などと書かれたのぼりやプラカードを掲げた。
　同県の玉城デニー知事は、「県民の安全安心な暮らしを守るため、全庁を挙げて取り組む」とのメッセージを寄せた。
　事件を巡り、政府が県に情報を伝えていなかったことにも怒りの声が上がった。同会の山城博治事務局長は「隠蔽（いんぺい）で、国家の許し難い暴挙。沖縄を何だと思っているのか」と憤った。
　大学院生の島袋里穂さん（２８）は「女の子がどれだけ怖い思いをしたかと想像すると、やりきれない」と話した。１９９５年に発生した米兵による少女暴行事件を挙げ、「『もううんざり』と叫びたくなる」と繰り返される性暴力に怒りをあらわにした。
　サイパンで戦争を経験した横田チヨ子さん（９７）は「復帰前から米軍の性暴力は続き、今回もこれだ」と話し「戦争を知らないからこういうことができるんだ」と語気を強めた。
　集会参加は初めてという東江真澄さん（３９）は３人の子育て中で「私達の世代で最後にし、子どもたちの世代に残すわけにいかない」と訴えた。（2024/07/04-21:10）

A protest rally was held Thursday near the Okinawa prefectural government building following the revelation of a spate of sexual assaults by U.S. military personnel on women in the southernmost Japan prefecture.
   Participating citizens shouted, "We will not forgive assaults by U.S. military members on women," and "Prefectural citizens are angry."
   The rally, sponsored by a civic group, attracted some 600 people, according to the group. Protesters held banners and placards calling for the protection of Okinawa citizens' dignity and the closure of U.S. military bases in the prefecture.
   "The entire prefectural government will work to protect prefectural citizens' safe and secure lives," said a message from Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki.
   Protesters' anger was also directed at the central government, which failed to share information with the prefectural government regarding the assaults promptly.
