「加害者の経験」再発防止の糧に　事故なくすため続ける発信―遺族の松永さん・池袋暴走５年

　２０１９年に東京・池袋で飯塚幸三受刑者（９２）の運転する車が暴走し、松永真菜さん＝当時（３１）＝と娘の莉子ちゃん＝同（３）＝が死亡した事故から１９日で５年となる。松永さんの夫拓也さん（３７）は、かつて法廷で対峙（たいじ）した飯塚受刑者と近く面会する予定だ。対話を通じ、「加害者の経験を交通事故防止の糧にしたい」と語る。
　拓也さんは３月、犯罪被害者が刑務所職員らを通じ、受刑者に自分の思いを伝える「心情等伝達制度」を活用し、高齢になっても運転を続けた飯塚受刑者に質問を投げ掛けた。「どうすれば事故を起こさずに済んだか」。いくつかの問いとともに「近いうちに面会したい」とも要望した。
　飯塚受刑者からは今月５日に回答があった。「運転しないことが大事だ」と説明し、「（遺族らに）申し訳ない」と謝罪の言葉が添えられていた。面会に応じる考えも明らかにした。
　拓也さんは面会が実現した暁には、飯塚受刑者に対し、「なぜ運転をやめなかったのか」との疑問をぶつけるつもりだ。「加害者の言い分にも再発防止のヒントが隠されている。それを発信し、多くの人が知るのは有益だと思う」と説明する。
　事故からの５年を振り返り、「２人の命は戻ってこない。むなしさや寂しさ、悲しさはずっと残っている」と苦し気な表情を見せる拓也さん。刑事や民事の裁判で当初、事故原因を「車の不具合」と訴え、無罪を主張していた飯塚受刑者の態度には「今でも腹は立つ」と憤る。
　一方で、「いつかは（飯塚受刑者と）しゃべりたい」という気持ちも公判中から抱いていた。東京地裁で禁錮５年の実刑判決が確定し、「罪を償ってほしいという目的は達成した。腹は立つけど内に秘める。（面会で）彼を責めるつもりはない」と語る。
　拓也さんは事故直後からＳＮＳや講演で、積極的に遺族の思いを発信してきた。誹謗（ひぼう）中傷を受け、投稿をためらったこともあるが、「発信をやめようと思ったことは一度もない」と断言する。根底にあるのは「２人の命を無駄にしたくない」という思いだ。「事故を減らすため、今後も多くの人に自分の思いを伝えていきたい」。（2024/04/19-07:05）

A Japanese man who lost his wife and daughter in a high-profile accident involving a runaway car driven by an elderly man five years ago says he hopes to "leverage (through dialogue) the victimizer's experience to prevent traffic accidents."
   The bereaved man, Takuya Matsunaga, 37, is slated to hold a meeting shortly with the elderly man, Kozo Iizuka, 92, who is serving a prison term over the incident.
   In the accident that happened in Tokyo's busy Ikebukuro district on April 19, 2019, a car driven by Iizuka, then 87, ignored a red light to enter a crosswalk, fatally hitting Matsunaga's wife, Mana, 31, and the couple's daughter, Riko, 3, and injuring nine other people.
   In his criminal trial, Iizuka pleaded not guilty, claiming that the accident resulted from a glitch in the car. But Tokyo District Court sentenced Iizuka to five years in prison in September 2021, concluding the accident occurred as he mistakenly hit the gas pedal for the brake pedal. Iizuka did not file an appeal, and the sentence became final.
   In March this year, Matsunaga asked questions to Iizuka, utilizing a system in which victims of crimes, including bereaved relatives, are allowed to convey their thoughts to perpetrators through prison staff. Matsunaga asked Iizuka, among other things, "How do you think the accident could have been prevented?" At the same time, Matsunaga asked for a meeting with Iizuka.
