月着陸、日本人初は誰に　現役飛行士７人に機会―探査想定、訓練も・ＪＡＸＡ

　アルテミス計画で日本人の月面着陸が決まったことを受け、宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）は今後、日本人として初めて月に降り立つ宇宙飛行士の人選を進める。現時点では、「選定方法も何も決まっていない」（ＪＡＸＡ広報）といい、昨年選抜された宇宙飛行士候補２人を含む７人のＪＡＸＡ飛行士の誰かが最初の「月への切符」をつかむことになる。
　米航空宇宙局（ＮＡＳＡ）などによると、アルテミス計画では２０２６年に同計画初の有人月面着陸（アルテミス３）を予定。米国人２人が有力で、「米国人以外で初」を確約された日本人の月面着陸は、その次の２８年のアルテミス４とみられる。
　日本は、２回の月面着陸機会の「対価」として、月面での滞在、探査の拠点となる探査車「有人与圧ローバ」（愛称・ルナクルーザー）を提供。３１年に月面到着予定で、日本が１０年間、運用を行う。このため、３２年のアルテミス７に２人目の日本人飛行士が搭乗し、探査車の最初の操縦を担当することが期待されている。
　ＪＡＸＡによると、国際宇宙ステーション（ＩＳＳ）滞在要員の人選では、日本に割り当てられた約２年に１度の搭乗機会ごとにＪＡＸＡを含めた参加各国の調整が行われるが、月着陸に関しては現時点でそうした枠組みも決まっていないという。
　一方、昨年選抜された米田あゆさん（２９）と諏訪理さん（４７）の基礎訓練では、月や火星での活動を見据えた、地質学などの新たな科目を実施。現役飛行士も、大西卓哉さん（４８）が昨年欧州宇宙機関（ＥＳＡ）が行った地質学調査訓練に参加するなど必要な技術習得を進めている。
　ＪＡＸＡ元有人宇宙技術部長の柳川孝二さんは日本人初の月面着陸について「飛行経験のない新人がいきなり行くのは難しそう。ＩＳＳで６カ月滞在を経験し、技量を判定して『この人なら』という人が行くのでは」と予想。一方で、２回目以降の月面着陸では「船長やパイロットをＮＡＳＡの飛行士が担当するとすれば、医療などの技量に長けた人が重宝がられるのではないか」と話した。（2024/04/12-07:08）

Japan is set to select its first astronaut to land on the moon in a future U.S.-led lunar mission, with seven astronauts, including two candidates selected last year, believed to be up for consideration.
   The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, said that "no decision has been made, including on the selection method" for the astronaut to take part in the Artemis manned lunar exploration mission.
   A Japanese astronaut is seen participating in Artemis 4 slated for 2028, because Artemis 3 planned for 2026, the first mission with a crewed lunar landing, is expected to be manned by two U.S. astronauts.
   Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. President Joe Biden agreed to have a Japanese national be the first non-U.S. astronaut to set foot on the moon.
   Japan will provide a manned pressurized rover called the Lunar Cruiser that will serve as a base for staying on and exploring the moon, in return for two opportunities for its nationals to land on the moon. The rover is expected to be sent to the moon in 2031 and operated by Japan for 10 years.
