ジャニーズ、１７日社名変更　「ＳＭＩＬＥ－ＵＰ．」

　多くの男性人気アイドルを輩出してきたジャニーズ事務所が、１７日付で社名を「ＳＭＩＬＥ―ＵＰ．（スマイルアップ）」に変更した。創業者のジャニー喜多川氏（２０１９年死去）による性加害問題の責任を取る形で、６１年続いた「看板」を下ろす。タレントのマネジメント業務は新設する別会社に引き継ぎ、被害者への補償業務に専念。終了後は廃業する。
　創業者の名前を冠し「ジャニーズ帝国」と呼ばれるほど、芸能界に大きな影響力を及ぼしてきたが、長年続いた所属タレントへの性加害を今年に入り改めて英ＢＢＣが報道し、社会問題化した。過去に性被害を受けたとの訴えも相次ぎ、同事務所に補償を求めた人は９月末で３２５人に上る。
　被害拡大の一因に指摘されたのが、創業者による性加害や所属タレントの不祥事の報道に消極的になっていたメディアの姿勢だった。テレビ局の多くは自らの報道姿勢などを検証する一方、実効性のある再発防止策などが取られるまでとして、所属タレント出演の新規契約に慎重になった。
　取引先企業の間でも、同事務所が性加害を認めて謝罪した９月７日の記者会見以降、タレントのＣＭ起用などを取りやめる動きが拡大。今後の事務所の対応を注視する姿勢を示している。（2023/10/17-00:44）

Johnny & Associates Inc. is set to change its name to "Smile-Up." on Tuesday, ending the Japanese talent agency's 61-year direct association with Johnny Kitagawa as part of the company's efforts to take responsibility for sexual abuse by the late founder.
   Following the name change, the company will focus solely on operations related to compensating sexual abuse victims, and will be shuttered after such work is completed. Meanwhile, a new company will be established to manage the talent agency's performers.
   Johnny & Associates was so influential in the country's entertainment industry that some dubbed it "Johnny's Empire." Kitagawa's persistent sexual abuse of agency members became a social issue after British broadcaster BBC reported on it this year.
   Since then, many people have come out with allegations of sexual abuse by the founder, with 325 demanding compensation from the company as of the end of last month.
   The media's reluctance to report Kitagawa's sexual abuse and scandals involving agency members has been suggested as one of the reasons for so many people becoming victims. Television broadcasters have been reviewing their reporting stances in light of such claims, as well as refraining from signing new performance contracts with agency members until Johnny & Associates implements effective recurrence prevention measures.
