タピオカ輸入衰えず　１～９月、前年の６倍―大阪税関

　タピオカ入り飲料の流行を受け、タピオカの輸入拡大が続いている。大阪税関が２０日発表した統計によると、１～９月の輸入量は前年同期比約６倍の１万１４５７トン、輸入額は約７．５倍の約３９億円。いずれも過去最高を更新した。
　同税関は「専門店の進出や輸入業者は増え続けている」（調査統計課）と指摘。増加傾向はしばらく続くと見ている。
　同税関によると、若い女性を中心としたタピオカ人気は小学生から３０代にまで広がり、タピオカ入り飲料は専門店以外のコンビニエンスストアやスーパーでも販売されている。７～９月の四半期だけで輸入量、金額ともに過去３年分の合計を上回ったという。
　タピオカはキャッサバイモから作ったでんぷんで、粒状のものを飲み物に入れて味わう。輸入量のうち台湾が９割以上を占める。（2019/11/20-20:33）

The volume of tapioca imports in January-September surged about six-fold from a year before to a record 11,457 tons, apparently reflecting the continued boom of tapioca drinks in Japan, data from Osaka Customs showed Wednesday.
   Imports also hit an all-time high in value, totaling around 3.9 billion yen, up some 7.5-fold.
   An Osaka Customs official noted that the number of specialized stores that sell drinks containing small balls of tapioca, made from starch derived from the cassava plant, and that of tapioca importers keep growing. The uptrend is expected to continue for the time being, the official suggested.
   According to Osaka Customs, the tapioca drink fad, seen mainly among young women at first, is now spreading to a wide range of generations, including elementary school children. Tapioca drinks are now available at not only specialized stores, but also convenience stores and supermarkets.
   Tapioca imports in July-September alone surpassed the total in the last three years in both volume and value.
