沢田教一の愛用カメラ展示　報道写真家、没後５０年

　日本カメラ博物館（東京都千代田区）は３日、ベトナム戦争などを取材し、数々の著名な作品を残した報道カメラマン沢田教一のカメラなど愛用品の常設展示を始める。２０２０年は、カンボジア内戦中に銃弾に倒れた沢田の没後５０年。
　展示されるのは戦場取材で使用したカメラや鉄製ヘルメット、米国防省発行の取材ＩＤなど１５点。いずれも沢田の妻サタさんから昨年末、同館に寄贈された。
　ほかに未発表のネガ約３万カットも託されたといい、同館は整理やデータ化を進めている。戦場だけでなく、ベトナムやカンボジアの住民の日常風景や子どもの笑顔、出身地青森でのスナップ写真など貴重なカットが含まれており、２２年の展示を目指している。
　沢田は青森県の高校を卒業後、地元の写真店勤務を経て、ＵＰＩ通信社でカメラマンとして活躍した。米国が本格的に軍事介入し、苛烈を極めたベトナム戦争などを取材。川を泳いで逃げる家族を撮影した写真「安全への逃避」は代表作として知られ、１９６６年にピュリツァー賞を受賞した。世界報道写真展大賞などほかの賞も多く獲得したが、７０年にカンボジアで銃撃を受け、３４年の生涯を閉じた。
　未公開写真のネガ整理などにあたる同館の山本一夫学芸員は「戦場カメラマンのイメージが強いが、子どもの笑顔など和やかな写真も撮影している。柔らかなまなざしを持つ優れた写真家だった」と話している。（2020/11/02-17:32）

The JCII Camera Museum in Tokyo started on Tuesday a permanent exhibition of cameras and other items regularly used by the late Japanese news photographer Kyoichi Sawada, best known for his coverage of the Vietnam War.
   This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Sawada, who was gunned down in Cambodia at age 34.
   On display are 15 items, including cameras, an iron helmet and an ID card from the U.S. Department of Defense that he used in combat areas. They were donated to the museum by his widow, Sata, late last year.
   The museum was also entrusted with negatives of about 30,000 unpublished photos by Sawada and is sorting them out for digitization. The photos include not only those taken in battlefields but also shots of people's daily lives and smiling children in Vietnam and Cambodia as well as snapshots in his hometown in Aomori Prefecture.
   The museum aims to put them on exhibition in 2022.
