「＃ＫｕＴｏｏ」提唱者ら選出＝「１００人の女性」に日本人２人－英ＢＢＣ

　【ロンドン時事】人々に感動や影響を与えた世界各国の女性を選ぶ英ＢＢＣ放送の今年の「１００人の女性」が１６日発表され、ハイヒールの着用強制に反対する「＃ＫｕＴｏｏ」運動を提唱したグラビア女優・ライターの石川優実さん＝東京都在住、岐阜県出身＝と、立命館大相撲部の今日和さん＝青森県出身＝の日本人女性２人が選ばれた。
　石川さんは仕事でパンプスの着用を求められ、出血などした経験から着用強制に抗議。性被害を告発する「＃ＭｅＴｏｏ」（私も被害者）に倣い、「靴」と「苦痛」をかけた「＃ＫｕＴｏｏ」と呼ばれる運動を始めた。

　今さんは、兄の影響で小学生の時に相撲を始めた。女子相撲の競技人口が少ない中、練習を続け、数々の試合に出場。昨年、大相撲の「女人禁制」など伝統の壁と向き合う今さんを追った英短編映画「リトル・ミス・スモウ」が制作され、注目を集めた。
　ＢＢＣによると、石川さんは「日本ではまだ多くの人が性差別の存在にさえ気付かない。男女が平等だということを認識し、日常的な差別に目を向けてほしい」と訴えた。今さんは「世界中の子供たちに相撲をやってほしい。相撲をオリンピック競技にしたい」とコメントした。　
　「１００人」にはほかに、地球温暖化対策強化を訴え、今年のノーベル平和賞候補にも挙がったスウェーデンの環境活動家グレタ・トゥンベリさんも選ばれた。（2019/10/16-21:31）

Two Japanese women, one behind a campaign against women being forced to wear high heels at the workplace and the other a collegiate sumo wrestler, were included in British broadcaster BBC's list of the world's 100 influential women of the year released Wednesday.
   Yumi Ishikawa, a model and author, who was tired of the pain she suffered wearing heels at work, started the campaign, named #KuToo, which plays on the Japanese words for shoes ("kutsu") and pain ("kutsu"), drawing inspiration from the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and assault.
   Hiyori Kon, a sumo club member at Japan's Ritsumeikan University, was the subject to last year's award-winning British documentary "Little Miss Sumo," which charted her battle against the tradition of one of the world's oldest sports barring women from competing professionally.
   BBC quoted Ishikawa as saying, "We're still in the situation where lots of people don't even realize there's gender discrimination in Japan, and for the #KuToo campaign too, lots of people don't regard it as an issue of discrimination."
   "I hope people notice this kind of discrimination in our daily lives, and realize men and women are equal," she said.
