裏方徹する「普通の人」　菅首相夫人の真理子さん、出会いは秘書時代

　日本のファーストレディーとなった菅義偉新首相夫人の真理子さん（６７）。出会いは菅氏の国会議員秘書時代で、同じ事務所で働いていた女性の姉が真理子さんだった。関係者は「これまで目立つことを嫌って裏方に徹していた。普通の人で、優しいお母さん」と印象を語る。
　菅氏が衆院議員になってからは、朝、議員宿舎で見送った後に地元横浜市の自宅に帰り、また夜に宿舎へ戻って夫をサポートしてきた。母としても３人の息子を育て上げた。
　夫人と電話をする時、菅氏は「ですます調」。言葉遣いから相手が誰か周囲はよく分かるという。
　菅氏の地盤が安定した後も衆院選の投開票日には事務所に集まったスタッフらに「昨夜は眠れなかった」と不安を打ち明ける。当選確実の報道が出ると一瞬ほっとした表情を見せるが、すぐ切り替えてお礼を述べる姿が印象的だと支援者は語る。（2020/09/17-07:06）

New Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's wife, Mariko, 67, does not like to seek attention but prefers to work as a behind-the-scenes supporter.
   "She has been devoting herself to a background role as she is publicity-shy," a person who is acquainted with the new Japanese first lady says. "She is an ordinary person and a kind mother."
   Suga met Mariko first when he was a secretary to a lawmaker. Her younger sister was working with Suga at the lawmaker's office at the time.
   Mariko has tirelessly supported her husband since he became a member of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Diet, Japan's parliament, at the age of 47.
   Her daily routine included seeing Suga off at a dormitory for Diet members in Tokyo in the morning, going back to their private home in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, and then returning to the dormitory in the evening to take care of him.
