目立つ空席、ホーム閑散　帰省シーズン迎えた週末―東京・名古屋

　新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大が続く中、お盆休みの帰省シーズンを迎えた８日午前、各地の新幹線ホームは連休初日にもかかわらず閑散としていた。帰省客の姿は少なく、「すぐに戻る予定」「やむを得ず移動する」などの声が聞かれた。
　ＪＲ東海によると、午前１０時までに東京駅を出発した東海道新幹線自由席の乗車率は最高５０％。同駅から新大阪や博多行きの車両が次々と出発していたが、いずれも空席が目立った。
　東京都台東区の男性会社員（３４）は、親族の葬儀で大阪府内へ。両親が住む和歌山県の実家には立ち寄らない予定で、「用事を済ませたらすぐに帰る」と話した。
　名古屋市内に帰省する都内の５０代女性は「１人暮らしで高齢の父親の様子を見に行く。ちゃんとご飯を食べているか心配だ」と話し、足早に車両に乗り込んだ。
　独自の「緊急事態宣言」を出した愛知県の名古屋駅ホームでも、帰省客らの姿はまばらだった。「あまり実家に帰れていなかったので」と話す三重県四日市市の女性会社員（３４）は娘と山口市に帰省。「子供が車内でいろいろな所を触らないか心配だ」と不安を口にした。
　法事のため高松市に向かう神奈川県藤沢市の自営業女性（７７）は消毒液を持ち歩いているといい、「こんな時期に移動したくないがやむを得ない」と話した。（2020/08/08-11:23）

Platforms for Shinkansen bullet trains in Japan were quiet Saturday morning amid the new coronavirus crisis, although it was the first day of summer breaks for many people.
   On platforms at JR Tokyo Station and elsewhere, there were only a few passengers on their ways to visit their parents' homes. Many trains had notable vacancies, unlike during the usual Bon summer holiday period.
   Japan is on a three-day weekend until Monday just ahead of the Bon holidays in mid-August.
   Amid the recent resurgence of coronavirus infections, some local government leaders are asking the public to refrain from making trips outside their own prefectures, while central government officials do not support across-the-board restrictions on such travel.
   According to Central Japan Railway Co. , or JR Tokai, the highest occupancy rate was only 50 pct for nonreserved seats of its Tokaido Shinkansen Line trains that left the station by 10 a.m.
