核戦争への警戒常に必要＝ノーベル平和賞の医師訴え－広島

　昨年ノーベル平和賞を受賞したコンゴ（旧ザイール）の医師デニ・ムクウェゲ氏（６４）は６日、広島市の平和記念資料館で講演した。米ロをはじめとする大国の動向について「兵器を規制する新たな動きに反対し、既に存在する条約から撤退することもある」と指摘。「（核兵器の使用を）二度と繰り返さないために警戒が常に必要だ。もし核兵器が再び使われたら人類最後の戦争になり得る」と訴えた。
　ムクウェゲ氏は、広島に投下された原子爆弾に使用されたウランが「当時ベルギーの植民地だったコンゴのカタンガ地域で採掘された」と紹介。豊富な鉱物資源の不法採掘が続いていると述べ、「大きな危険だ。規制に努めなければならない」と危機感を表明した。「コンゴでの平和と安定は、信頼できる鉱物資源の貿易があってこそ得られる」とも強調した。（2019/10/06-14:46）

Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege on Sunday called for a close watch on major powers including the United States and Russia to prevent nuclear weapons from being used again.
   Major powers may oppose any new moves to place restrictions on nuclear weapons and withdraw from existing treaties, the Congolese doctor said in a speech at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima, western Japan.
   Vigilance is always necessary in order to prevent nuclear weapons from being used again, he said, adding that the use of such weapons would cause the final war among the human beings.
   Mukwege, who won the 2018 prize, is visiting the city attacked with an atomic bomb in August 1945 in the closing days of World War II.
   Uranium used in the bomb was dug up in Congo, then under Belgian colonial rule, he said, expressing concern about ongoing illegal mining of mineral resources in his country.
