日新丸が帰港＝商業捕鯨再開初年度、枠ほぼ消化

　３１年ぶりに再開した商業捕鯨で、捕鯨母船「日新丸」が４日、今年の操業を終えて下関港（山口県下関市）に戻った。３カ月間でニタリクジラ１８７頭など、年内の捕獲枠をほぼすべて消化。関係者からは「順調にスタートした」（江藤拓農林水産相）と成果に満足する声が上がった。
　７月１日に下関港から出航した日新丸は、愛知県南方沖などで、ニタリのほか、イワシクジラ２５頭、ミンククジラ１１頭を捕獲。ミンクは上限に届かなかったが、ニタリとイワシは枠の上限に達した。船内で冷凍した鯨肉など約１４３０トンのうち、約３７０トンは既に仙台港（仙台市）で荷下ろししており、残りの約１０６０トンは５日から下関港で水揚げする。
　一方、こうした沖合業者と同様に７月から各地の沿岸で商業捕鯨を手掛けている小型の捕鯨業者らも既に、ミンクを上限いっぱいの３３頭まで捕獲し、今年の漁をほぼ終えている。日本小型捕鯨協会（福岡市）の貝良文会長は「サイズも大きくておいしいものが取れた。（市場での鯨肉の）値段も良かった」と評価した。（2019/10/04-18:27）

Japanese Mother Boat Returns after Restarted Commercial Whaling

The Japanese whaling mother ship Nisshin Maru returned to Shimonoseki Port in Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan, on Friday after finishing this year's commercial whaling, the country's first in 31 years.
   In the three-month whaling period, this year's quotas were almost met, including 187 Bryde's whales.
   Commercial whaling "made a good start," said fisheries minister Taku Eto.
   After departing the port on July 1, the Nisshin Maru also caught 25 sei whales and 11 minke whales at locations including waters off the coast of Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.
   The quantity of catches reached upper limits for sei and Bryde's whales, while that for minke whales did not.
