令和ゆかりの地も閑散　天皇陛下即位から１年―新型コロナ

　天皇陛下の即位から１年を迎えた１日、ゆかりのある各地は大型連休中にもかかわらず閑散とした光景が広がっていた。「こんな状況になるとは」。列島が沸いた当時の面影はなく、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響の大きさを物語っていた。
　昨年の５月１日、新時代の雰囲気を感じようと多くの人が各地から集まった皇居。この日は二重橋周辺に観光客の姿はほとんど見られず、散策する地元の人やランナーが通るばかりだった。

　ウオーキングしていた会社役員の男性（７０）＝東京都千代田区＝は「昨年の即位の日はすごい混雑だったが、コロナで突然こんな状況になってしまうとは」と嘆息。在宅勤務中の健康維持のため、毎日マスク姿で皇居を１周しているといい、「始まりがあればいつか必ず終わりもある。過度な心配はしていない」と前向きに話した。
　「令和」ゆかりの地として知られる福岡県太宰府市の坂本八幡宮も２月下旬ごろから社務所を閉鎖しており、参拝する人はまばらだった。氏子会の高瀬昭登会長（７９）によると、昨年の５月１日は最長数百メートルの参拝の行列ができたが、「今は近所の人が来るぐらい」という。（2020/05/02-07:35）

As Japan marked one year since Emperor Naruhito's ascension to the throne Friday, sites related to his enthronement were largely empty due to the coronavirus outbreak.
   On May 1 last year, many people from across Japan gathered at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to get a feel of the new era, Reiwa, which started that day.
   A year later, however, the Nijubashi area near the palace building was basically free of tourists, with only strolling locals and joggers passing by.
   "It was very crowded on the ascension day last year. I didn't expect it suddenly to be like this because of the coronavirus," corporate executive Shoji Suzuki, 70, said. He was taking a walk near the Imperial Palace.
   Suzuki said he makes a lap around the palace everyday wearing a face mask, in order to maintain his health as he works from home.
