日本政治の不安定化警戒　政局を注視―米

　【ワシントン時事】衆院選で与党が過半数を失ったことを受け、米国の対日外交専門家らはアジア最大の同盟国である日本の不安定化に警戒を強めている。一方、「日米同盟の重要性は日本で広く理解されている」（米政府筋）と静観する向きもあり、石破茂政権と野党の協力の行方など日本の政局を注視している。
　米メディアは選挙結果を速報。ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙は「日本の政治は近年で最も不安定な時期に入った」とし、「（トップが短期間で交代する）回転ドア式統治に戻るかもしれない」と伝えた。
　ランド研究所のジェフリー・ホーナン国家安全保障研究部日本部長は、石破首相が当面、信頼回復のため内政に集中せざるを得ず、外交の優先度は下がると予測。どの同盟国も、国内政治が流動化すれば「米国との関係は常に複雑になる」と強調した。来月５日の大統領選を経て来年１月に発足する米国の新政権との間で「（日米）同盟は再調整の時期を迎えるかもしれない」と語った。
　一方、ハドソン研究所のケネス・ワインスタイン日本部長は、日本が安保関連３文書の策定など同盟強化につながる変化を経験したことが安心材料だと指摘。防衛費増額を含め「自らの安全保障に責任を持つ方向性を既に示している」と述べ、過度に懸念する必要はないとの考えを示した。（2024/10/28-20:29）

Some observers in the United States over Japan-U.S. relations are casting vigilant eyes on Japanese politics following the defeat of the ruling coalition led by the Liberal Democratic Party in Sunday's election for the House of Representatives, the all-important lower chamber of Japan's parliament.
   A U.S. government source pointed out that Washington is calmly watching developments in the East Asian ally, saying Japanese people widely understand the importance of their country's alliance with the United States.
   Meanwhile, Jeffrey Hornung, Japan lead for the RAND National Security Division, told Jiji Press that it is hard to predict how postelection Japanese politics would be because it had yet to be known whether Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, also LDP president, "will lead a minority government, get an opposition party to join it to give it a majority, or whether someone in the LDP may challenge him."
   But if Ishiba stays on as prime minister, "he will have to focus on regaining the trust of the voters, which likely means focusing on domestic policies, like economic ones," Hornung went on to say. "Foreign policy is not going to likely be a priority as the LDP seeks to regain public trust."
   "From a U.S. standpoint, it always makes bilateral relations complicated with any ally when you have rapid changes in administration," he also noted, forecasting that with a new U.S administration starting in January after the Nov. 5 presidential election, the Japan-U.S. alliance "may endure some period of readjustment."
