反捕鯨の容疑者、釈放求めデモ　日本製品、不買運動も―仏

　【パリ時事】反捕鯨団体シー・シェパード（ＳＳ）創設者で、デンマーク領グリーンランドで長期間拘束されているポール・ワトソン容疑者（７３）の釈放を求めるデモが２３日、フランスの首都パリで行われた。日本は調査捕鯨を妨害されたとして国際手配し、身柄引き渡しを求めている。
　パリ市役所前に大勢のデモ参加者が集結。「クジラの救助は犯罪ではない」と書かれたプラカードを掲げ、「日本は有罪、デンマークは共犯」とシュプレヒコールを上げた。一方、グリーンランドでは２３日、ワトソン容疑者の勾留延長が決まった。
　フランスは反捕鯨国で、ワトソン容疑者はマクロン大統領に政治亡命を申請。デモ参加者によれば、一部では抗議の意思表示で、日本製品の不買運動が始まった。パリ郊外に住む女性（６０）は「日本は偉大な国なのに、残念。（今回の件で）イメージがとても悪くなった」と話した。（2024/10/24-06:13）

A protest was held in Paris on Wednesday to demand the release of Paul Watson, founder of antiwhaling group Sea Shepherd, who has been detained in Greenland, the autonomous territory of Denmark, and is facing an extradition request from Japan.
   Many protesters gathered in front of the city hall of Paris. They held placards, including one reading that saving whales is not a crime, and chanted that Japan is guilty and that Denmark is an accomplice.
   Japan has placed Watson, 73, on an international wanted list on suspicion of obstructing the country's research whaling, demanding his extradition.
   In Greenland, an extension of Watson's detention was decided on Wednesday.
   France is an antiwhaling country, and Watson has appealed to French President Emmanuel Macron for political asylum in the country.
