県警本部長、袴田さんに直接謝罪　「５８年間の心労、申し訳ない」―再審無罪確定受け・静岡

　１９６６年に静岡県で一家４人が殺害された事件で袴田巌さん（８８）の再審無罪が確定したことを受け、静岡県警の津田隆好本部長は２１日、浜松市内の袴田さん宅を訪れて直接謝罪した。
　津田本部長は、いすに座った袴田さんと姉ひで子さん（９１）の前で「逮捕から無罪確定まで５８年間の長きにわたり、言葉では言い尽くせないほどのご心労、ご負担をおかけし、申し訳ありませんでした」と述べた後、約２分間、深々と頭を下げた。ひで子さんは「巌も私も運命だと思っている。今さら苦情を言うつもりはありません」と応じた。
　ひで子さんはその後の取材に「巌が死刑囚だったことを忘れるための踏ん切りを付けていただきたいと思ってお迎えした」と話した。ひで子さんによると、巌さんは硬い表情でやや緊張気味だったという。
　津田本部長も記者団の取材に応じ、「強制的、威圧的取り調べがあったということで誠に申し訳ない」と改めて謝罪。今後の捜査の在り方について「より一層緻密かつ適正な捜査をしていきたい」と述べた。
　９月２６日の再審判決で静岡地裁は、袴田さんの「自白」や犯行着衣とされた血痕の付いた衣類などの証拠について、「捜査機関による捏造（ねつぞう）」と認定。津田本部長は今月９日、記者団の取材に対し、袴田さんに直接謝罪する意向を示していた。
　袴田さんは８０年に死刑が確定。静岡地検が９日、静岡地裁の再審無罪判決に対する上訴権を放棄し、袴田さんの無罪が確定した。（2024/10/21-16:17）

The chief of the Shizuoka prefectural police department apologized directly to former Japanese death-row inmate Iwao Hakamata at his home in Hamamatu in the central Japan prefecture on Monday, after his acquittal in a retrial over a 1966 murder case became final earlier this month.
   "I apologize for the indescribable burden and trouble we have caused over the 58 years," Takayoshi Tsuda, chief of the prefectural police department, said in front of Hakamata, 88, and his 91-year-old sister, Hideko. He then bowed deeply for about two minutes.
   "Both Iwao and I believe it was fate," Hideko said. "We have no intention of complaining now."
   In the Sept. 26 retrial ruling on Hakamata, Shizuoka District Court recognized that Hakamata's confession and evidence such as clothes with blood stains, which were allegedly worn by the perpetrator at the time of the crime, were fabricated by investigators.
   Hakamata's death sentence became final in 1980. His acquittal was finalized after the Shizuoka District Public Prosecutors Office on Oct. 9 waived its right of appeal against the district court's ruling.
