島しょ国の法整備支援へ　各国法相らと議論

　法務省は１０日、太平洋島しょ国の法整備について各国法相らと議論する会議を東京都内で開いた。法務分野で抱える島しょ国側の課題を洗い出し、日本の支援に反映させる方針。「法の支配」を推進し、覇権主義的な動きを強める中国に対抗する狙いがある。
　小泉龍司法相は冒頭、「太平洋島しょ国と共に、この地域の法の支配の推進に一層貢献したい」と語った。
　法務省は東南アジア各国を対象に法令起草や人材育成を後押しする「法制度整備支援」を１９９０年代から展開。同種の支援を太平洋島しょ国でも行う考えで、具体的には土地や戸籍の制度整備、再犯防止施策の推進などを検討している。（2024/07/10-10:52）

Japan's Justice Ministry held a meeting in Tokyo on Wednesday with Pacific island countries to help them promote the rule of law, apparently keeping in check China, which is stepping up hegemonic moves.
   The meeting was intended to identify judicial issues facing island nations so that Japan can reflect their needs in its support measures.
   "Working with Pacific island nations, Japan wants to further contribute to the promotion of the rule of law in the region," Japanese Justice Minister Ryuji Koizumi said at the beginning of the meeting.
   Since the 1990s, the ministry has been supporting Southeast Asian countries in improving their judicial systems, such as helping them draft legislation and develop human resources.
   The ministry plans to provide similar support to Pacific island countries, including in the development of land and family registration systems and the promotion of measures to prevent recidivism.
