日本政府、経済・安保協力を強化へ　ＥＵ離脱の英と、中国意識

　日本政府は、英国の欧州連合（ＥＵ）からの離脱を機に、経済や安全保障の分野で英国との協力強化を図る方針だ。日英両政府はラーブ外相の２月来日を調整しており、茂木敏充外相との会談では貿易協定交渉の進め方などを中心に議論するとみられる。
　茂木氏は３１日の記者会見で「英国との新たな経済的パートナーシップの構築に速やかに取り組む」と述べ、貿易協定交渉に意欲を示した。日本政府は、英国が前向きな環太平洋連携協定（ＴＰＰ）への参加も後押しする考えだ。
　ただ、英国のＥＵ離脱の経済への影響は読みにくい面もあり、現地に進出している日系企業の活動に不安があるのも事実だ。
　政府は３１日、英離脱に関する局長級の作業部会を首相官邸で開催し、離脱によって中小を含む日系企業の活動が滞らないよう支援策を検討することを申し合わせた。英国とＥＵによる今後の貿易交渉の情報収集に努めることも確認した。
　日本が対英関係を重視するのは、海洋進出を活発化させる中国に対抗する上で有効との判断もある。英国はアジアに影響力を保持し、日本と自由や民主主義といった基本的価値を共有しているためだ。
　外務省幹部は「離脱後の英国は、国際的な影響力を残すために米国や日本との関係を強化したいと思っている」と指摘。防衛省幹部も「英国の目はアジアに向いている」と話している。（2020/02/01-07:13）

The Japanese government is seeking to use Britain's exit from the European Union, or Brexit, on Friday as an opportunity to strengthen economic and security ties between the two countries.
   London and Tokyo are in talks for a potential visit to Japan by British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in February, when he and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi are expected meet and discuss mainly how to proceed with negotiations on a bilateral trade deal.
   At a press conference on Friday, Motegi expressed Tokyo's willingness to negotiate a trade agreement with Britain, saying, "We will quickly work to build a new economic partnership with Britain."
   Tokyo is also expected to support Britain's participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, on which the European nation is showing interest. Japan and other countries put the multilateral trade deal into effect in late 2018.
   The boost in economic ties between the two countries comes as Japanese companies with business in Britain worry about the effects of Brexit on their operations in the country.
