原宿新駅舎、工事進む　３月２１日利用開始―ＪＲ東日本

　ＪＲ東日本は２９日、山手線原宿駅（東京都渋谷区）の新しい駅舎とホームを報道公開した。同駅はファッションなどの文化発信地として知られる竹下通りに近く、訪日外国人の利用も多い。東京五輪・パラリンピックの開幕を控え、新駅舎などは３月２１日に利用開始となる見込み。
　ＪＲ東によると、原宿駅の１日平均乗車人員は２０１８年度で約７万５０００人。新駅舎の工事は８～９割ほど進んでいるという。この日公開された１階にはまだ所々に資材が置かれ、自動改札機などは設置されていなかった。

　現在の駅舎は１９２４年に完成し、都内にある木造駅舎の中で最も古い。耐火基準を満たしていないとして建て替えが決まり、１６年９月から新駅舎の建設を進めていた。
　新駅舎は２階建て延べ２４１０平方メートルで、現駅舎の約４倍。エレベーターが増設され改札も広くなり、混雑が緩和されるとみられる。新ホームは外回り専用で、これまで使われていたホームは内回り用になる。（2020/01/29-11:50）

Tokyo's New Harajuku Station Building Shown to Press

East Japan Railway Co. , or JR East, showed the press the Yamanote Line's new Harajuku Station building and platform Wednesday.
   The station in Tokyo stands near Takeshita Street, a center of fashion and youth cultures that draws many visitors from abroad.
   The new building is expected to open March 21 ahead of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Japanese capital.
   The current building, constructed in 1924, is the oldest wooden station building in Tokyo, according to JR East.
   JR East started constructing the new building in September 2016, as the old one does not meet the current fire resistance standards.
