冬のサバ、イワシが豊漁　脂乗った上質魚がお買い得

　海が荒れて漁獲が落ちる冬場には珍しく、マサバとマイワシが豊漁となっている。三陸各地や千葉県で好調な水揚げが続き、東京・豊洲市場（江東区）のほか全国の魚市場にも大量に入荷。品質が良く価格も安いことから、スーパーなどで人気を集めている。
　マサバはこの秋、全国的に低調な水揚げが続いていたが、１１月下旬から状況が一変。三陸沖で大きな魚群が見つかり、巻き網漁船が集まる青森県の八戸港から、千葉県の銚子港までの太平洋側各港で水揚げが急増している。１２月のこの海域のマサバ水揚げ量は、２０日までの各港の合計が５万トンを超え、９月や１０月の３０倍近くに達している。
　マイワシは秋以降、岩手県沿岸の豊漁が際立っている。同県では不漁に見舞われたサンマから狙いを変えた漁船の操業が今年から本格化。主産地の大船渡港では１２月、２０日までの水揚げが約３０００トンと前年同時期の約２０倍に増えた。

　両魚種が大量に入荷している豊洲市場では、１２月中旬の卸値がいずれも前年比２割近く値下がり。都内量販店の店頭価格は、マサバ１匹が４００円前後、マイワシ１匹が８０円前後。いずれも「１年を通して一番安い水準」（練馬区の中堅スーパー）だという。
　お手頃な上に品質の評価も高く「この冬のサバは北欧産にも負けないくらい脂乗りが良い」と豊洲市場の卸会社。岩手産マイワシを仕入れている同市場の仲卸は「全身トロで青魚特有の臭みが少ない。高級すし店にも出している」と太鼓判を押す。
　カニやマグロなど高級品が注目される歳末商戦真っただ中だが、めったに食べられない安くて上質な冬の大衆魚も試してみる価値がありそうだ。（2019/12/22-06:58）

Fishermen in Japan are enjoying good catches of chub mackerel and Japanese sardine this winter although catches tend to fall at this time of year due to rough ocean conditions.
   High landing volumes are continuing at ports across the Sanriku coast on the Pacific side of the Tohoku northeastern Japan region and in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, leading to massive shipments to the Toyosu wholesale food market in Tokyo and other fish markets in the country. The mackerel and sardine are increasingly popular among consumers thanks to their low prices and good tastes.
   Catches of chub mackerel were poor nationwide this autumn. But the situation changed dramatically in late November after large schools of the fish were found in waters off Sanriku. Catch volumes started to surge as a result at ports along the Pacific coast, spanning from Hachinohe Port in Aomori Prefecture in Tohoku to Choshi Port in Chiba.
   The total volume of chub mackerel landed at ports in these areas surpassed 50,000 tons between Dec. 1 and 20, nearly 30 times larger than in September and October.
   Catches of Japanese sardine have been outstanding in waters off Iwate Prefecture in Tohoku in and after autumn. Fishers in the prefecture started full-fledged catches of Japanese sardine this year as they shifted their target from saury following its poor hauls in recent years.
