「時代の節目、深い感慨」　祝意に感謝、決意も―皇后さま、５６歳に

　皇后さまは９日、５６歳の誕生日を迎えられた。５月に皇后となってから初めての誕生日。宮内庁を通じ文書で感想を発表し、「時代の節目となった今年を振り返りますと、深い感慨に包まれます」と気持ちをつづった。
　５月に皇居で行われた天皇陛下即位後の一般参賀や、１１月に行われた民間主催の「国民祭典」、パレード「祝賀御列の儀」に触れ、「多くの国民の皆様から、思いがけないほど本当に温かいお祝いを頂きましたことに、心から感謝しております」と謝意を表明。上皇ご夫妻にも深い感謝の気持ちを示し、「陛下とご一緒に、国民の皆様の幸せを常に願いながら、寄り添っていくことができましたらという思いを新たにしてまいりました」と記した。
　台風１９号などの被害を案じ、アフガニスタンで医師の中村哲さんが命を落としたことを「とても残念なこと」と振り返った。一方、明るい話題としてラグビーワールドカップ日本大会での日本選手の活躍や吉野彰さんのノーベル化学賞受賞決定を挙げ、来年に迫った東京五輪・パラリンピックへの期待も示した。
　その上で、「健康の一層の快復に努めながら、皇后としての務めを果たし、陛下とご一緒に、国民の幸せに力を尽くしていくことができますよう努力してまいりたい」と決意を述べた。（2019/12/09-00:18）

Empress Masako turned 56 years old on Monday, her first birthday in the new Japanese era of Reiwa, which started along with the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito, her husband, in May.
   "As I recall this year, which saw a historical moment, I'm filled with deep emotion," the Empress said in a statement released through the Imperial Household Agency.
   "I sincerely appreciate unexpectedly warm celebrations by many people in such occasions as our public greeting at the Imperial Palace in May, the national festival (to mark the Emperor's enthronement) and the 'Shukuga-Onretsu-no-Gi' (enthronement parade), both in November," she said.
   Empress Masako also deeply thanked former Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko for "giving consideration and showing the way" to realizing a smooth Imperial succession, as well as for their longtime service while staying close to the people.
   "I renew my hope to, together with His Majesty, be standing by the people while always wishing their happiness," the Empress said.
