異例の国会延長要求　「桜」追及、与党は拒否―野党

　首相主催の「桜を見る会」をめぐり、立憲民主党など主要野党は４日の国対委員長会談で、今後も追及を続けるため、９日までの今国会会期の大幅延長を与党に求める方針を確認した。野党が会期延長を提案するのは極めて異例。ただ、与党に応じる気はなく、逃げ切りを図る構えだ。国会最終盤の攻防が激しくなっている。
　立憲の安住淳国対委員長は会談後、記者団に「『越年国会』を働き掛けたい」と強調。衆参両院予算委員会への安倍晋三首相の出席要求を与党が拒んでいることを踏まえ、「隠れていても国民は誰も納得しない。国民の前に出てきてほしい」と挑発した。
　首相が会期末までに国会で答弁する機会はない見通し。野党には「逃げる首相」を印象付ける思惑もにじむ。
　これに対し、自民、公明両党は４日の幹事長・国対委員長会談で、今国会会期を延長しない方針を事実上確認。この後、自民党の森山裕国対委員長は桜を見る会について、記者団に「国民の理解をいただきつつある」との認識を示した。
　自民党はまた、４日の参院予算委員会理事懇談会で、金子原二郎委員長（自民）が３日に提案した首相の出席しない一般質疑の開催も拒否。問題の幕引きを急ぐが、立憲の蓮舫参院幹事長は記者団に「まさに首相隠し、桜隠し、データ隠しだ」と批判。金子委員長の解任決議案提出を「検討せざるを得ない」と表明した。（2019/12/04-20:32）

Major Japanese opposition parties have agreed to urge the ruling bloc to substantially extend the ongoing session of the Diet, the country's parliament, aiming to continue grilling Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over controversial cherry blossom-viewing parties he hosted.
   The agreement was reached at a meeting on Wednesday of parliamentary affairs chiefs of the parties, including the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. It is very rare for the opposition side to request an extension of a Diet session. The current extraordinary session is scheduled to end on Monday.
   The ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its Komeito ally are likely to reject the possible opposition demand. The tax-funded annual cherry blossom parties are at the center of fresh cronyism allegations involving Abe, with the prime minister under fire for inviting many of his supporters to the events.
   "We aim to urge the ruling side to extend the Diet session beyond the turn of the year," CDPJ Diet affairs chief Jun Azumi told reporters after the meeting.
   Abe "won't be able to convince any member of the public if he continues hiding," Azumi said, in apparent reference to the ruling camp's rejection of an opposition demand that meetings of the budget committees of both Diet chambers be held with participation by the prime minister.
