Ａ級戦犯の遺骨「太平洋に散布」　米公文書を発見

　極東軍事裁判でＡ級戦犯とされ死刑が執行された東条英機元首相ら７人について、遺骨を太平洋に散布したと記した米軍の公文書が発見されていたことが、９日までに分かった。Ａ級戦犯の遺骨が散布された可能性を示す記録はこれまでにも見つかっていたが、公文書で詳細が明らかになったのは初めて。
　発見されたのは米軍の報告書２通で、秘密指定の解除後、米公文書館で保管されていた。日本大の高沢弘明専任講師が２０１８年３月、日本の戦犯に関する調査の過程で入手した。
　死刑が執行された１９４８年１２月２３日付の報告書には、７人の氏名と共に、散骨を行ったことが短く記載されていた。４９年１月４日付のもう１通では、執行から散骨までの経緯が時系列で説明されている。いずれも、現場の責任者だったとみられる米第８軍のルーサー・フライアーソン少佐が執筆した。
　報告書によると、死刑執行の当日、少佐らは７人の遺体を巣鴨拘置所から横浜の火葬場に護送。遺骨は骨つぼに入れて第８軍の飛行場に搬送し、「連絡機」と呼ばれる航空機に積んだ。
　連絡機には少佐と操縦士が乗り、「横浜の東の太平洋上空約３０マイルの地点に進み、ＧＨＱ（連合国軍総司令部）の書簡に従って遺骨を広範囲に散布した」という。
　高沢氏によると、ＧＨＱは死刑執行前に遺骨の散布を求める文書を出していた。報告書には、遺骨を遺族らに返還せず散布した理由は記されていなかった。
　高沢氏は「これまで伝聞でしか情報がなかったことが公文書で判明した。執筆者本人のサインもあり、信ぴょう性は高い」と話している。（2021/06/09-13:20）

U.S. military reports showing that the cremated remains of executed Japanese Class-A war criminals were scattered into the Pacific Ocean have been found, according to informed sources.
   This marks the first discovery of official documents detailing the scattering of the ashes of former Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo and six others who were convicted as Class-A World War II criminals by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. There had been only records suggesting the possibility of the ashes having been scattered.
   Hiroaki Takazawa, associate professor at Nihon University, acquired the two U.S. military reports while researching about Japanese war criminals in March 2018. The documents were kept at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration after being declassified.
   In the report dated Dec. 23, 1948, when the war criminals were executed, the names of the seven people were followed by a short passage saying that their ashes have been scattered.
   The other report, dated Jan. 4, 1949, details chronologically the process from the executions to the ash scattering.
