英空母打撃群が出航　日本にも寄港、インド太平洋関与強化

　【ロンドン時事】英最新鋭空母「クイーン・エリザベス」を中心とする空母打撃群が２２日、極東に向けて南部ポーツマスの母港から出航した。英政府が打ち出しているインド太平洋地域への関与を強化する政策の一環で、海洋進出を強める中国をけん制する狙いもある。政府が「戦略的パートナー国」として重視する日本にも寄港し、自衛隊との共同訓練も実施する。
　クイーン・エリザベスは英海軍最大級の艦艇で、排水量約６万５０００トン、全長約２８０メートル。今回が初の本格航海となり、地中海からインド洋を航行し、シンガポールやインドなどにも寄港。その後、南シナ海を通ってフィリピン海へと向かう。航行期間は約７カ月。日本国内での寄港先や時期は不明。
　クイーン・エリザベスは英空軍と米海兵隊に所属するＦ３５Ｂ戦闘機計１８機のほか、攻撃用ヘリや対潜哨戒ヘリなどを搭載。打撃群はこの空母を中心に４５型駆逐艦２隻、２３型対潜フリゲート艦２隻などで構成され、米軍の駆逐艦とオランダのフリゲート艦も参加している。全体の要員は３７００人。
　出航に先立つ２２日午前、エリザベス女王が自身の名を冠した空母を訪れ、艦長らと面会。ジョンソン首相も２１日に艦内を視察し、乗組員を激励した。首相は船上でメディアに「中国の友人たちに、われわれが国際海事法（の順守）を信じているということを自信を持って、しかし対立的でないやり方で示したい」と表明。「誰も敵に回すことはしない」とも強調した。
　英政府は３月に安全保障・外交の中長期計画「統合レビュー」を発表。中国の台頭を念頭に、インド太平洋地域に外交の重心を移す方針を打ち出した。空母派遣により、日本をはじめ「（民主主義の）価値観を共有する」（統合レビュー）国々との防衛協力の一層の深化を目指す考えだ。（2021/05/24-07:04）

A British carrier strike group, led by the new HMS Queen Elizabeth, embarked on a world tour Saturday, heading for the Far East as part of Britain's efforts to enhance its involvement in the Indo-Pacific region.
   The aircraft carrier accompanied by a fleet of warships will visit Japan, to which Britain attaches importance as a strategic partner country, and will engage in joint exercises with the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. It will also visit Singapore and India.
   The tour, apparently intended to contain China's increasing maritime assertiveness, will last some seven months. It is unknown when the carrier strike group will visit Japan.
   Alessio Patalano, associate professor of King's College London who is well-versed in East Asian security issues, said Britain's choice of the Indo-Pacific region as the destination of the HMS Queen Elizabeth's first full-scale deployment has important implications, in view of the fact that U.S.-China competition has become a structural feature of international relations today. Britain is trying to use this opportunity to demonstrate the role it wants to play as a global power, he added.
   On the carrier strike group's visit to Japan, Patalano said it will be an important opportunity for Britain and Japan to start working on the strengthening of tactical integration.
