緒方さん「難民支援の基準確立」＝国連事務総長

　【ニューヨーク時事】グテレス国連事務総長は２９日、緒方貞子・元国連難民高等弁務官について、「道義的で思いやりがあり、かつ効果的であることを重視する難民支援の基準を確立した」とたたえる声明を発表した。また、人道支援において「模範となる人で、訃報に深く悲しんでいる」と語った。
　グテレス氏は、緒方さんが人を守ることや人道的行動のためには「恐れを知らない人だった」と回顧。女性初の難民高等弁務官として「（紛争などの）解決策に女性が関与する必要性を強調した先駆者」と評価した。（2019/10/30-01:20）

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised former U.N. refugee chief Sadako Ogata as a standard setter for refugee aid in a statement released Tuesday upon the news of her death.
   Ogata, who was the first woman to serve as U.N. high commissioner for refugees, "set the standard for helping refugees: principled, compassionate, effective," the statement said.
   Expressing his deep sadness, Guterres called Ogata a "role model for people across the world."
   Ogata "was fearless in her advocacy for people, humanitarian action and political solutions," said Guterres, who himself held the post of UNHCR from 2005 to 2015.
   "She was a pioneer in highlighting not only the impact of violence on women, but the imperative of women's involvement in solutions," the statement also said.
