独少女像、国民感情悪化を懸念　岸田文雄元外相インタビュー

　２０１５年に韓国と慰安婦問題に関する合意を交わした岸田文雄元外相との一問一答は次の通り。
　―日韓合意の意義とは。
　最終的・不可逆的にこの問題について解決すると両国で確認したこと、そして今後、国際場裏においてお互いに非難することはやめると確認した意義は大きかった。当時のバイデン米副大統領、潘基文国連事務総長はじめ、国際社会が評価した合意を履行する責務を両国は負っている。
　―最近、ベルリンで慰安婦を象徴する少女像が設置された。
　韓国政府は、慰安婦問題について第三国におけるこうした動きを支援することはしないと、合意を行った際に表明していた。韓国に対する日本の国民感情をますます悪化させることにつながると懸念している。
　―日韓両政府に求めることは。
　日本は（合意を）履行している。韓国も履行するべき、それだけだ。
　―リスクもあった韓国との交渉にあえて臨んだ理由は。
　こういった問題をずっと長引かせることは両国の未来にとって好ましいものではないということを強く感じた。日本国内にもさまざまな意見があった。われわれもそれを乗り越えて合意を決断したので、韓国政府にも国内をまとめるよう努力してもらわなければならない。政権が代わったから約束を守る必要はないというのは通用しない。
　―当時、米副大統領だったバイデン氏が大統領に就任する。
　その後の経緯については日本の立場をしっかり理解してもらうよう、改めて丁寧に説明することが大事だ。（2020/12/28-07:18）

A statue symbolizing the so-called wartime comfort women issue built recently in Berlin is feared to worsen Japanese sentiment toward South Korea further, former Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has said.
   Kishida expressed the concern in an interview ahead of the fifth anniversary of a landmark bilateral agreement to resolve the issue. He concluded the accord with his then counterpart, Yun Byung-se, on Dec. 28, 2015.
   The agreement "carried great significance in that the two countries confirmed they would resolve this issue finally and irreversibly and stop criticizing each other in the international community," Kishida said.
   "Both countries are responsible for implementing the agreement, which was highly rated by the international community including then U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and then U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon," Kishida added.
   Regarding the new girl statue, built in Berlin in September this year by a South Korean group, Kishida said he is worried that the development may "lead to further deterioration in Japanese sentiment toward South Korea."
