産業界、技術開発急ぐ　自動車は電動化加速―温室ガス５０年ゼロ

　政府が温室効果ガスの排出量を２０５０年までに実質ゼロにする目標を掲げたことを受け、産業界は対応を迫られる。自動車メーカーは電気自動車（ＥＶ）への移行を加速。鉄鋼メーカーも排出削減へ技術開発を急ぐ。国内での「脱炭素化」は欧州などに比べ出遅れている。目標達成には官民挙げた取り組みが求められそうだ。
　トヨタ自動車は５０年に新車の二酸化炭素（ＣＯ２）排出量を１０年比で９０％削減することを目指している。ホンダも３０年にＥＶや燃料電池車を含む電動車の販売比率を全体の３分の２に引き上げる計画だ。両社は今年、新型ＥＶを国内で発売し、大手によるＥＶシフトが本格化する。
　もっとも、国内でＥＶが占める比率は１％に満たず、欧州などに比べ出遅れている。連続走行距離がガソリン車に比べ短く、充電場所が少ないためだ。各社は大量生産体制の整備を急ぐ一方、政府には「補助金やインフラ整備などの政策に期待したい」（大手メーカー）と支援策を求める。
　鉄鋼業界では、水素を使ってＣＯ２排出量を削減する製鉄技術の研究開発を進めている。日本製鉄は、具体的な削減目標を今年度中にも取りまとめる方針。ＪＦＥホールディングスも「５０年以降のなるべく早い段階で（排出量と吸収量を均衡させる）カーボンニュートラルを実現する」との意向を示す。
　電動化を支えるエネルギー源では、火力発電依存からの脱却が課題だ。原発再稼働に対する地元住民の懸念は根強く、再生可能エネルギーの普及がカギを握る。ただ、「電気料金の値上げは必至で、産業競争力の低下につながる」（重電大手）と警戒されており、再エネのコスト低減も欠かせない。（2020/10/28-07:04）

Japan's business world is rushing to take measures to reach the government's goal to reduce the nation's greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
   Automakers are accelerating their shifts to electric vehicles while steelmakers are developing technologies to reduce emissions. The carbon neutrality goal was announced by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga in his first policy speech at the Diet, Japan's parliament, on Monday.
   Toyota Motor Corp. is aiming to cut carbon dioxide emissions from its new vehicles by 90 pct in 2050 from the level in 2010. Honda Motor Co. plans to raise the proportion of electric and fuel-cell vehicles in its total automobile sales to two-thirds in 2030. The two companies released new electric vehicle models this year.
   The share of electric vehicles in the domestic automobile market is only less than 1 pct, far behind that in Europe. Electric vehicles have a shorter range than vehicles that run on gasoline, and there are not many charging stations in Japan.
   As automakers rush to beef up their facilities for mass production of electric vehicles, an official of a major maker asked the government for support measures, such as providing subsidies and setting up necessary infrastructure.
