関心は社会と政治経済　「新聞は必要な情報源」―時事世論調査

　新聞を購読する人のうち、情報源として必要だと考える人が約７割を占め、関心を持って読んでいるのは社会面や政治・経済面だったことが、時事通信が９月に実施した「新聞」に関する世論調査で分かった。
　まず、新聞の購読について聞くと、「購読している」は６２．５％で、「購読していない」の３７．５％を大きく上回っていた。購読している人は、年齢別で１８～２９歳の若い世代でも４０．３％、３０代以外は４０％を超えており、６０代は７９．０％、７０歳以上は８５．１％を占めた。
　購読者に読んでいる理由を複数回答で聞くと、最多は「情報源として必要だから」が６８．１％。「習慣だから」が３８．６％で、「勉強になるから」が３３．９％だった。
　その上で、関心を持って読む記事を複数回答で聞くと、「事件や事故などの社会面」が最多の５７．２％。２番目は「政治・経済」で５４．０％、「自分が住む地域の地元ニュース」５２．０％が続いた。
　以下、▽スポーツ３７．２％▽ラジオ・テレビ欄２８．３％▽海外ニュース２２．９％▽自分が住む地域の訃報２２．１％▽社説１９．３％▽読者からの投稿１７．３％―の順だった。
　調査は９月１１～１４日、全国の１８歳以上の男女２０００人に個別面接方式で実施し、回収率は６３．０％。（2020/10/18-07:22）

A majority of newspaper subscribers in Japan read articles on the city news section with interest, a Jiji Press opinion poll has shown.
   Of the total respondents, 62.5 pct said they are newspaper subscribers, while 37.5 pct said they are not, according to the September survey on newspapers.
   The share of subscribers exceeded 40 pct in all age groups except respondents in their 30s, with the age group of between 18 and 29 scoring 40.3 pct.
   The subscription rate was high at 79.0 pct among respondents in their 60s and 85.1 pct among those aged 70 or older.
   Of the total subscribers, 68.1 pct said they read newspapers because they are a necessary source of information. Meanwhile, 38.6 pct said reading newspapers is a habit, and 33.9 pct said they learn things by reading newspapers.
