核ごみ調査、神恵内村でも浮上　寿都町に続き２例目―北海道

　高レベル放射性廃棄物（核のごみ）の最終処分地選定をめぐり、北海道神恵内村で第１段階に当たる「文献調査」の応募検討に向けた動きが浮上していることが１１日、分かった。応募検討の動きが判明するのは、国が２０１７年に全国の処分適地を示した「科学的特性マップ」公表後、同じ北海道の寿都町に続き全国２カ所目。
　村議会によると、地元商工会が８日、村議会に文献調査受け入れに向けた取り組みの促進を求める請願を提出した。請願提出を受け、村議会は１５～１７日の９月定例議会で審議する見通しだ。
　村役場で記者会見した高橋昌幸村長は商工会の請願について、「議会の審議に影響があるようなことは現時点では言えない」と述べた。
　商工会関係者によると、請願提出を決めた臨時総会で反対意見はほとんど出なかったという。会員男性は「原発に隣接する自治体として、議論の一歩目を踏み出すことは当然だ」と強調した。
　神恵内村は北海道西部に位置し、日本海に面している。稼働を停止している北海道電力泊原発が立地する泊村に隣接する自治体。科学マップ上では南部の一部を除き、ほぼ全域が非適性地に分類される。
　処分地選定は「文献調査」「概要調査」「精密調査」の全３段階。第１段階の文献調査を受けると国から最大２０億円の交付金が得られる。（2020/09/11-17:49）

Hokkaido should ditch its ordinance rejecting nuclear waste as it does not fit the times, Haruo Kataoka, mayor of Suttsu in Japan's northernmost prefecture, has said.
   Suttsu is considering applying for a first-stage survey in the process of selecting a planned final disposal site for high-level radioactive waste from power stations.
   In an exclusive interview Friday, Kataoka stressed that the ordinance is "out of step with the times and should be abolished." He also renewed his eagerness to apply for the survey.
   Citing the ordinance, Hokkaido Governor Naomichi Suzuki is asking the town of Suttsu to make a careful decision on the application.
   Kataoka claims the ordinance is "irresponsible," given that the prefecture has the Tomari nuclear power plant of Hokkaido Electric Power Co. .
