大坂選手、準決勝出場へ　棄権から一転「支援に感謝」―テニス

　【ニューヨーク時事】テニスで女子シングルス世界ランキング１０位の大坂なおみ選手（日清食品）は２７日、所属事務所を通じて声明を出し、ウエスタン・アンド・サザン・オープン準決勝（２８日、ニューヨーク）に出場する意向を明らかした。２６日の準々決勝後、米ウィスコンシン州で黒人男性が警官に銃撃された事件に抗議するため、準決勝を棄権すると自身のツイッターで表明していた。
　大会主催者も２７日の試合を中断し、２８日に再開すると発表した。大坂選手は声明で「棄権を表明した後、（主催者側と）話し合って金曜日（２８日）に試合を行う要請に合意した。大会を中断してくれたことで、多くの関心を集めることができた。このサポートに感謝している」と述べた。
　大坂選手は２８日午前１１時（日本時間２９日午前０時）から、世界２２位のエリス・メルテンス（ベルギー）と準決勝を行う。（2020/08/28-13:00）

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka will play in the Western & Southern Open semifinals, put off to Friday after she announced her withdrawal from the competition, The Guardian said in Thursday's electronic edition.
   On Wednesday, the world's 10th-ranked player said in a statement posted on Twitter that she intends to abstain from the semifinals to join protests against a police shooting of a black man in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.
   After "lengthy consultation" with the organizers of the competition following her announcement, "I have agreed at their request to play on Friday," Osaka said in a statement to the British newspaper.
   The organizers "offered to postpone all matches until Friday and in my mind that brings more attention to the movement," she added.
