北アルプスで氷河確認＝国内７例目、唐松沢雪渓－新潟大など

　長野、富山両県にまたがる北アルプス唐松岳（２６９６メートル）の唐松沢雪渓（長野県白馬村）が、新潟大などの調査で３日までに氷河と確認された。国内では２０１８年に確認された鹿島槍ケ岳のカクネ里雪渓（長野県大町市）などに続き７例目。日本雪氷学会の学会誌に論文が近く掲載される。

　富山県立山カルデラ砂防博物館（同県立山町）によると、氷河の定義は、雪が押しつぶされてできた氷の塊「氷体」が重力によって長期間流動しているもの。唐松沢雪渓は標高１７５０～２２８０メートルで、表面の雪の下に厚い氷体が広がる。厚さは平均で約２５メートル、最も厚い所で約３５メートルあり、長さは約１キロに及ぶ。（2019/10/03-11:10）

A survey by Niigata University and other researchers has confirmed that a snow patch in a mountain in central Japan's Hida range, known as the northern Japanese Alps, is a glacier.
   The Karamatsusawa snow patch in Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, is the seventh glacier confirmed in Japan. The finding will be published in the academic journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice.
   The remaining six include the Kakunezato snow patch in Mount Kashimayari in Omachi, Nagano, recognized as a glacier in 2018.
   The newly confirmed glacier is in the 2,696-meter-high Mount Karamatsu, which lies across Nagano and Toyama prefectures.
   According to the Tateyama Caldera Sabo Museum in Tateyama, Toyama, a glacier is defined as a mass of ice made of compressed snow that flows over a long period due to gravity.
