関電社長、強まる辞任論＝筆頭株主が経営陣の刷新要求－金品受領問題

　関西電力幹部らが福井県高浜町の元助役から多額の金品を受け取った問題で、同社の岩根茂樹社長の辞任論が強まっている。同氏は辞任を否定するが、筆頭株主の大阪市が経営陣の刷新を求めるなど、「外堀」は埋まりつつある。
　「先頭に立って原因究明と再発防止をやることで経営責任を果たしたい」。岩根社長は情報の開示不足との批判を受けて２日に開いた２回目の記者会見で、改めて辞任を否定した。
　しかし、筆頭株主である大阪市は「経営陣は身を引くべきだ」（松井一郎市長）と刷新を主張。菅原一秀経済産業相も２日、「（関電が自ら）経営判断は当然すると思う」と責任の明確化を強く求めた。ある電力関係者は「遅かれ早かれ（岩根氏の）辞任は不可避」とみる。
　関電の株価は問題発覚後、１０％以上急落。電力・ガスの自由化が進む中で今後の顧客流出が懸念される。また原発をめぐる不透明さが改めて浮き彫りになったことで、関電が目指す老朽原発３基の再稼働や中間貯蔵施設の選定への影響も避けられない。
　さらに、「関西をリードしてきた」（金融関係者）と言われる関電の不祥事だけに、地元への波紋も広がっている。関西財界のトップを数多く輩出してきた関電の八木誠会長は、現在、関西経済連合会副会長を務めており、次期会長の有力候補になっている。八木氏は「引き続き財界活動に貢献したい」と話すが、２０２５年大阪・関西万博に向け、資金面を含め関電のリーダーシップには不透明感が漂っている。（2019/10/03-07:11）

Calls for Kansai Electric Power Co. President Shigeki Iwane to step down are intensifying in the wake of a scandal in which executives of the firm received gifts, including cash, from an influential late former deputy mayor of a nuclear plant host town.
   Iwane ruled out resigning over the matter at a press conference Wednesday, saying, "I want to fulfill my management responsibility by leading efforts to investigate the causes and prevent recurrences." It was Kansai Electric's second press conference on the scandal, held after the company, based in the western Japan city of Osaka, was criticized for not disclosing enough information at the first news conference last Friday.
   The city, the top shareholder of Kansai Electric, urged the company to revamp its management, with its mayor, Ichiro Matsui, saying that the current management team "should back out."
   "I think Kansai Electric of course will make their own management decision," industry minister Isshu Sugawara said Wednesday, emphasizing the management team's need to take responsibility over the scandal.
   "I think (Iwane) will have to resign sooner or later," an industry source said.
