日英、戦闘機の機体共通化へ　Ｆ２後継、コストを抑制

　政府は航空自衛隊Ｆ２戦闘機の後継機について、英国が開発中の戦闘機と計画を統合し、共通の機体とする方向で調整に入った。双方の技術力を生かすと同時に生産コスト抑制につなげる狙い。複数の関係者が１７日、明らかにした。８月末にまとめる防衛省の２０２３年度予算概算要求に関連事業を盛り込んだ上で、こうした方針を年末に決定する考えだ。
　日本の次期戦闘機は、００年に配備が始まったＦ２が退役する３５年ごろの運用開始を予定する。英国も空軍主力機「ユーロファイター・タイフーン」の後継機「テンペスト」について同時期の就役を目指して開発に着手しており、日英は協力の可能性を探ってきた。
　協議の結果、高いステルス性や航続距離、機体の大きさ、搭載するエンジンの数などについて要求性能がほぼ一致。英側が情報開示にも積極的で、将来的な改修の自由度も確保できることから、防衛省も計画の統合に踏み切ることにした。
　日本側は三菱重工業、英側は航空防衛大手ＢＡＥシステムズが開発主体となる。加えて、エンジンをＩＨＩと英ロールスロイス、レーダーを三菱電機とイタリアの防衛装備大手レオナルドの英国法人が開発する構図が固まっている。
　自衛隊と英国軍は、いずれも米軍と共同の作戦に当たることが想定されるため、米軍との相互運用性の確保について米側から支援を受ける方向。イタリアも英国の戦闘機開発への参加が決まっていることから、日英共同開発に加わる可能性がある。
　ただ、秋に予定される英国の首相交代が不安要素として残る。現職のジョンソン首相は日英の戦闘機共同開発に前向きだが、後継首相の姿勢によっては計画の修正もあり得る。日英は年末の合意に向け、詰めの調整を続ける方針だ。（2022/08/18-07:06）

-Japan is in talks with Britain to jointly develop a new fighter jet in an effort to utilize the technologies of both countries and lower production costs, sources familiar with the matter said Wednesday.
   The Japanese Defense Ministry aims to integrate plans for a successor to the Air Self-Defense Force's F-2 fighter jet with those of an aircraft currently under development in Britain, the sources said.
   The Japanese government hopes to finalize the joint development plan by the end of the year, the sources said.
   Japan's next-generation fighter jet is expected to enter service around 2035, after the retirement of F-2s, which were first deployed in 2000.
   Britain is currently developing the Tempest, a successor to the Royal Air Force's Eurofighter Typhoon, to be deployed around the same time.
