「９．１１」解説本刊行　「若い世代に伝えたい」―調査報告書翻訳の遺族

　２００１年の米同時テロで、長男の杉山陽一さん＝当時（３４）＝を亡くした住山一貞さん（８４）＝東京都目黒区＝が４月、米テロ調査委員会がまとめた「９．１１」報告書の解説本を刊行した。報告書の全訳に加え、イスラム原理主義の背景となった中東の歴史、日本人が被害者となった過去のテロ事件なども紹介。住山さんは「『９．１１』を知らない若い世代の方に伝えたい」と話した。
　住山さんは昨年９月、５００ページ超の報告書全文を独力で訳した邦訳本を刊行している。注釈はあまり入れず、できるだけ原書に忠実に翻訳した。解説本を作った理由について、「報告書は『事件が起き、被害があった』で終わっている。日本人や被害者の視点で書きたかった」と説明する。
　解説本は、「９．１１」での日本人の犠牲者数を掲載し、遺体の回収作業がどのように行われたかに言及した。海外で起きた他の事件での日本人被害者に対する政府の補償などにも触れた。
　「９．１１」前後のイスラム過激派によるテロ事件も掲載。住山さんは「自衛隊のイラク派兵後、明らかに日本人をターゲットにしたテロが起きている」と指摘し、「もう少しテロについても考えないといけないと思う」と述べた。
　解説本は、出版社「ころから」（東京都北区）から定価４０００円（税別）で刊行。初版は２０００部で、５月４日にオンライン視聴も可能な記念イベントを開催する予定だ。（2022/05/01-07:16）

The father of a Japanese victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States has published a commentary on a U.S. official report on the incident.
   The commentary was written by Kazusada Sumiyama, 84, whose first son, Yoichi Sugiyama, was killed in the 9/11 attacks at age 34.
   The book includes a translation of the full text of the report by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, a history of the Middle East and a section on past terror attacks involving Japanese victims.
   "I want to deliver the story to young generations who do not know '9/11'," Sumiyama said.
   Last September, he published the Japanese translation of the report over 500 pages long. He tried to make the translation faithful to the original as much as possible, while he did not make many annotations.
